  • Collector Car Appreciation Day

This was passed on to me by a friend from the Virginia Peninsula Car Club Council:

The United States Senate recently passed Senate Resolution 513 (S. Res. 513, May 7, 2010) designating July 9 as "Collector Car Appreciation Day" at the request of the Specialty Equipment Market association (SEMA) , the Automotive Restoration Market Organization (ARMO) and the hobbyists . S.Res. 515 was sponsored by the Congressional Automotive Performance and Motorsports Caucus members Senator Jon Tester (D-MT) and Senator Richard Burr (R-NC) which acknowledges the importance of collection and restoration of historic and classic cars.

Classic and Collector car Clubs in this area play a vital role in not only preserving these historic treasures and links to our own past ( Hey, didn't Dad have that car or That was my first car!), but in raising funds for many local charities. Throughout the Spring, Summer, and Fall car shows and cruise ins, owners proudly display their restored and well maintained vehicles to the public in a family friendly atmosphere. Thousands of dollars are distributed to organizations like the Children's Hospital of the Kings daughters, Food Pantries, Wounded Warrior programs, to name a few.

When you see these vehicles on the highway give them a little extra room, since many have mechanical brakes, no power steering, and standard transmissions (Three on the Tree!) Give them the courtesy of the road that is afforded to other vehicles like motorcycles and bicycles. Drive by honk and share the road with these living memories, and come by car shows and other events to enjoy their legacy and help charity. A list of weekly events can be found at the Virginia Peninsula Car Club Council web site www.vpccc.org or in your local newspaper weekend events listings.
