  • Chromed Plastic on "Modern Marvels"

Hi all! Last nite on Modern Marvels (History channel), there was a segment about the process of making chrome plated plastic parts for the automobile industry. Very astounding how that the parts, such as grills, were first dipped in the acid etching tank, then paladium, then nickel etc. So I find a bit of satisfaction in knowing that the chrome-plastic parts on our new Thunderbirds are true chrome! Sure hope that someone, saves the molds for the T-Birds chrome parts, so that some manufacturer can continue to produce replacement parts far into the future.

It's a Modern Rip-Off. The MSRP for a Chrome hood scoop trim or insert from Ford is $328.85. The MSRP for the Chrome Grille, that is maybe 10 times the size or more, is $252.53. I know some dealers sell the scoop trim for as low as $85.00 to individuals. The MSRP prices are what they charge the insurance companies. Leroy
