I'm with you Julie in S.Fl. you have no choice but A/C and if the top is down (mostly at night now) the A/C is cranking.Put the windows up and get a wind blocker and you can enjoy more of the A/C with top down ,same go's for fall days with heat and top down.

You can drive with the top down and air going full blast all day. Done that many times. But does not solve this problem. When we do a road trip and drive for 10 to 12 hours at one time the back of my shirt is soaked. I'm thinking of the terry cloth thing. Don't like any type of seat cover but something that is only a temp thing that might work.

Just thought I'd add my 2 cents here...our member "EldoradoBird" (Jimmy Edlgo) uses towels with a unique type of attachment. He took 2 grommets and installed them into a thick towel (dark gray to compliment his black interior) in the positions of the headrest prongs. Slip the towel-grommets over the prongs, replace the headrest, and BAM! - the towel doesnt scrunch down when you sit on it.

          Work for me!

Similar principal with a product called Seat Armour at http://www.seatarmour.com/index.php
Has a slot to slip over the head rest so it can be easily installed/removed at will. They run about $30 and can be found at a number of outlets. I sent them an email asking about one with a TBird logo. They said they could do that for an extra $10. Total of $40 is getting a bit pricy for a towel.

Thermoelectric seat cooling is the only real way to eliminate heat. I checked out a few online references and found this one. I'm not sure how this works, because a thermoelectric device gets very cold on one side and very hot on the other. While it may adequately cool your back, is it burning up your seat face?

The description indicates the heat transfer occurs in the box at your feet. Appears that the box acts like a heat pump which heats or cools a fluid that is pumped thru the seat cushion.

I drive top down for one month in a year. If it is hot AC will be on full blast if need be.

Oh oh , now I've done it, that statement always brings out those owners who say to not do as I just suggested, the A/C burns out twice as fast. Well to them I say , it's my car and I bought it to enjoy the top down weather and I don't want to be miserably hot during the drive. I drive my 02 about 3/4th of the year with the top down and the A/C running and no problems with the A/C yet. Maybe the A/C will go out tomorrow, who knows, but the only thing I do know is I am not going to be miserable driving my car.
Good luck with any decision you make Paul.

Here's a link to Kool Cushions that remind me of the cushions used in the mid to late 50's. A/C is the only way to go in Hot SA!
