Re: Driving from Grand Junction, CO to Nashville

    David,
You will likely get an offer from George somewhere
in mid-Nebraska that will make my offer seem like you hit the lottery. Good luck. And George.......show him no mercy...and remember he deals in used cars by the hundreds so hold on to your wallet.....and do not even consider his even-trade offer for your Inca.

Really very sorry you had so much trouble in such a short time. I really would like to help out and am taking Spence's suggestion and offering $800 to just let me take it off your hands and scrap it out for parts. Cannot pick up your plane fare back to Nashville since my original offer was for Greyhound ticket. To make things easy just have the transport carrier drop the car here in New Orleans and it will be out of your hair.

Roger, the one problem with your offer is this....THIS IS MY CAR.....NOT DAVID'S, SO ALL OFFERS ARE VOIDED!!

David: Not sure if you are aware but before you pull the tank, there is a short piece of fuel hose behind the inner fender splash shield on the drivers side where the line comes along behind the rocker pannel. It is about 6 inches long and when they get old they will deteriate inside and the suction of the fuel pump (vacuum) will suck it shut creating starvation of fuel to the pump/carburator. this is a commen problem on that vintage of birds. Just a thought. If it was replaced recently , someone may have put a 'rubber' hose on there which is a no, no. Rubber and gasoline are not compatible. It will turn to mush. Just a thought,

Great info Martin, thank you. When I get it home I will check that out before pulling the tank. I also noticed a rubber hose between the copper fuel line and the fuel filter. I assume that is wrong too?

Lets not use the word "rubber hose" when talking fuel lines. Can come back to haunt you. Always ask for fuel line hose or "neoprene".
As for the hose from the line to the filter, that has to be flexible so that the engine can move on acceleration. The one previously mentioned is hidden behind the rear splash shield and forgotten over the years until it becomes a problem. easy to get to once you remove the tire/wheel and then the splash shield. right at the bottom inside corner of the fender. Also, under the door /rocker panel where the line comes to the front, there are two brackets/shields to hold and protect the fuel lines (steel) and those two spots are notorious for trapping dirt and corroding the fuel lines. When you start seeing these areas wet and smelling a bit like gasoline, it is time to change the lines. You can now get those in repro s/s. or regular steel. (or make your own). The lines can also get pinched in these areas if the garage does not know how to properly lift the car on the hoist.
Glad to help out anytime as I have been playing with these flairbirds since the late 70's.
                          Martin.
