  • Two More Aggravations

I have two electrical problems on my '03 T-bird and was wondering how common they are or if they might be an early warning sign of a bigger problem on the way.
First, a couple of weeks ago the switch that controls the passenger side seat heater started flashing intermittently. I disassembled enough of the dash to get access to the switch. I hoped that a wiring connection was loose, but that was not the case. My next plan was to swap the driver and passenger side switches to discover if the problem was in the switch or elsewhere, but they don't interchange. The switches and wiring harness plugs are different from side to side on the car. My solution was to reassemble the dash and put a piece of black tape over the switch so I can't see the little seat symbols randomly flashing on and off.
Tonight the T-bird presented my with something else to worry about. The 'door ajar' light on the dash has started flashing intermittently as well. Of course modern cars don't have a simple switch mounted in the door that turns the interior lights on and off. I'm afraid some $10,000 computer that controls the electrical system on the car is about to fail. Do any of you have experience with the problems that I'm having? Thanks in advance.

The seat switch is a fairly frequent problem and most people have replaced the switch. If you use the "search" feature here on the site you will find several posts dealing with this.

I also had a problem with the door ajar light and eventually found that the trunk button was not depressing when the lid was closed.

Roger, You were absolutely correct about the 'door ajar' light. The trunk lid wasn't closed properly. I don't know how I didn't notice something like that. I did a search on the heater switches and it seems looks like that problem isn't much to worry about either. I'll order a new switch and change it out myself.
      Thanks,
      Trent

That trunk ajar is a pain .Until it happens you just don't think of it .When it happened to me I must have hit the trunk button on the key fob by accident.

If there was one good thing I could say about my wife's BMW (it's gone now, thank God), is that the door-ajar light on the dash showed you the exact door that was ajar...if the trunk wasn't closed tight, it indicated the trunk was the issue.
