My question is this: If a custom car builder creates a one-of-a-kind custom car how does the builder get it licensed for highway/street use? I cannot imagine that this Mark X cannot be licensed for highway use. There must be a process.

Cars are required to have the what was required when they were built. If a person builds a 32 rod it basically has to have front lights and 1 tail light on the driver's side. The 04 Lincoln would have to have all the stuff that was required for 04 cars (working air bags, side marker lamp, wipers, complete working emissions system, etc, etc, etc,) Based on the pictures the prototype is lacking some of, if not all these items. Oh, and it has to have a VIN which it will not have.

One way to register it, remove the body and put it on a 2004 chassis and drive train.
Probably for those who can afford to buy a concept, can afford to do that and retain the old chassis so as to reverse the process if they want to resell it as a concept. Just a thought

I'd like to park in his garage for just one day...but it'd take forever to wipe up the drool over some of his inventory. Think he'd notice if I left one of my cars (say, the Expedition or the '89 Bird) for one of his?

Naw he won't mind........I'd suggest you take the 58 T-Bird Convertible; the one with 158 miles on the odo! Afterall he has so many T-birds he probably won't even miss it!
