  • Shortest time owned?

On June 9th, I posted about Mr Ming Liu, who had just purchased his '02 WW Bird from Freedom Ford:
    http://www.thunderbirdnest.com/forum...&postcount=171

Well, this afternoon I got an email from Mr. Liu - he has already traded in his Bird. Here is his message to me:

" Dear Ms. White, Unfortunately, the Thunder bird is no longer mine. My golf clubs and pulling cart were too large to fit the trunk and my other vehicle which was a full size car was giving me alot of trouble. Therefore, I traded in both of my vehicle for a Cadillac CTS.

My pulling cart sits in the front passenger side and when I accelerate or turn it slides towards me and hits me. This is a danger and could be a serious driving hazard.

I appreciate the invitation to your upcoming T-Bird Owner"s party however, since I no longer own mine, I have to respectfilly decline. I wish you and the T-Bird Owner's the best in there future.

    Thank you "

Well - there ya' go. We'll miss him, but I don't think he really 'got' the Thunderbird. Does this qualify as 'shortest time owned'?

What size pull cart did he have? I get two full size sets of clubs in the bags in my Tbird. Like you said, he probably just didn't have the Thunderbird within him.

These guys buy these clubs these days as big as a house. I call them "Meat loaf on a stick" to improve there game. Oh well, I am happy for the Bird as there is a fanatic like me out there just waiting to snag her up! Good luck with the Sadilack....LOL

Exactly, Richard. I wish he had let me know he was planning to getting rid of it. Probably could have bought it for a song (um..."Fun, Fun, Fun", for example - ) but the Caddy dealer where he traded it sold it this afternoon, and wouldn't give me any more info. Somewhere out there is a new owner of a 2002 WW that probably doesn't know about TBN, or T@TWH this Saturday.

Mr. Lui seems to be a very proper and polite gentleman, but anyone whose ownership of a Retrobird is contingent upon its golf club hauling capacity obviously never ever got it in the first place. None of us who share the Tbird passion have ever tried to justify it from the standpoint of it being practical. Hopefully whomever gets the Tbird that Mr. Lui gave up will be able to better appreciate it for the treasure that it is.

The Thunderbird trunk was designed to carry 2 sets of golf clubs however you really have to know what you are doing to get both in and actually shut the trunk. I can only fit one full size bag and one of my kids smaller bags and then you have to do it just right. The key it to put the bag in club head first (which takes some practice) and then lay the bottom down.

I carry golf clubs 4-5 times a week so I consider myself somewhat of an expert when it comes to clubs and a T-bird trunk.

                Re: Shortest time owned?

I consider golf impractical not owning a T bird. I tried golf for several years and the only benefit I got was the 19 th hole.

When it comes to Golf fanatics these guys really will put their "game" above all else. The wife, the kids, work and certainly a car......all come in a distant second for guys like this.

Not saying I understand it either. But I've seen it often enough to know that it's far from a surprise to learn the man would prefer the bigger Cadillac to a T-Bird when golf is the priority.

Honestly? I'm surprised he doesn't go in for an Escalade on the off chance he ever has to drive his entire 4-some and all their clubs at some point.

For me it's the very definition of "obsession" when a guy would sooner drive something boring 95% of the time he's at the wheel just to make space for the "Clubs, bag and a pull cart" on the weekend.

I am an avid golfer AND T-Birder. A friend just told me my driver looked like about the size of his toaster!! They fit fine in the trunk and my pull cart sits in the seat next to me in a black(matching t-bird color) duffel bag to protect the leather, dash board etc. Golf and T-Birding go very well together..

I also have to use the club head first while loading in trunk method. My clubs went in the trunk back in June, have been living in there since. I used to play 20-25 rounds a year back in the late 90s and early 2000s. Used to be a mid-80s 12-14 hdcp player. Didn't play at all in 2007, 3x in 2008, 2x in 2009, 4x so far this year. Like riding a bike, comes right back, shot 94 and 91 last two rounds, had two snowmen in the 94 and one in the 91. I'll be back in the 80s shortly.
