  • Soft Boot Questions

So having the car for 6 months the daughter of the late owner called me to say she found something she thought belongs with the car and that i can pick it up or she'll throw it out.It turned out to be the soft boot light sand color as is the interior/top and it was never opened or used.
Obviously this is not something i would use all the time but it sure looks great when it's on.So my questions are.

1-What's the best way to install/remove
    2-how due you store it,roll it,fold it.
3-What lubricant due you put on the snaps.
4-I assume i should use raggtop or 303 fabric quard to protect it.

1-What's the best way to install/remove

Start with the snaps first, then tuck in the back and sides next.

    2-how due you store it,roll it,fold it.

    We fold ours.

3-What lubricant due you put on the snaps.
We use vaseline on ours applied with a toothpick but I've used bar soap in the past. Do not get any on the fabric as it can stain it.

4-I assume i should use raggtop or 303 fabric quard to protect it.

You can. We don't use anything on ours as it's rarely on and it's definitely not on when it's wet out.

1-What's the best way to install/remove

I start on Driver side and tuck the plastic tab on the end into the black bracket attached to the inside of fender. Then tuck in side and halfway across the back then attach snaps.
Go to passenger side & repeat.
To remove just pop snaps and pull out. Be careful to pop snaps by putting fingers as close to snap as possible to avoid tearing snap from fabric.

      2-how due you store it,roll it,fold it.

I fold in four and secure with velcro strap put in cubby in trunk and cover with towel to prevent accidental soiling.

3-What lubricant due you put on the snaps.

White lithium grease very sparingly to prevent bleeding thru top or it will stain top.

4-I assume i should use raggtop or 303 fabric quard to protect it.

I use upholstery cleaner and rinse with hose then throw over the fence to drip dry in the sun.

I use silicone grease ( NOT SPRAY ) You put just a dab on snap and wipe off the residual lasts for months. I use it on many things but nothing painted. You can get it in plumbing section at home centers. Mine is in a gray cup about the size of a quarter. It's great for "O " rings and rubber as it keeps it plyable.

I would not follow any of the above suggestions
Instead I would just sell it to me at very cheap price

Just kidding you got a lucky find.

              Re: Soft Boot Questions

              We use dove soap.

Caution- we use it once a year at Toms Cruises.

It was still on when I raised the top!

Luckily the snaps snapped off the right hand side. This threw off the alignment a little and in future closings there was a rub noise.

I closed and locked the roof and gently pushed the open button and it realigned itself and now works smoothly again.

Next Toms Cruise I left it off.

Don't forget to buy a "tonneau tool" to help pop those snaps off. Do a search and you will find Geoff's name. It helps protect against snaps being pulled out.
