  • broken heart

Today I had my heart broken when I took my wife out for our weekly Sunday drive. In the small quaint town of Piermont, NY along the Hudson Rv. We parked in what seemed like the safest spot as I always do. When we got back to the t-bird there was a note on the car saying someone had backed into it while turning around smashing the front end. The note left a plate no. but the cop said that without a witness there was nothing he could do. My wife and I searched almost a year for our beautiful Bird and we had it only 6 mo. Thanks for letting us cry to you. Any one know a good body shop in Bergen ,northen New Jersey that will treat it like their own? Charlie

I don't understand why the cops can't track down the car via the plate # and check it for damage - and your car's paint on it. So sorry you're going through this, and hope you find the perfect body shop soon.

I'm sorry to hear this Charlie. They left a note, but didn't leave any contact info? With the plate number, even if they didn't leave a phone number or name - I would think that your insurance company can track them down and file a claim. These people seemed to want to do the right thing, they could have just driven off.

Don't worry though, many of us have had work done to our babies and it will turn out just fine. It can cause you some worry, but don't let it. It'll look like brand new.

            Re: broken heart

Who left the note, the front end smasher or a witness? Makes a big difference as far as tracing somebody down.

                    Re: broken heart

Cops did locate the plate in a nearby town. when my car was hit ,it cracked the fender and bumper and pushed in part of the front end under the headlight. Thanks or no thanks to Fords clear coat the paint stayed in tack. I think thats why the cop thinks they would deny it. Anyway thats the story I got from the cop who said it happens all the time. I do have a friend who said he would get me their phone no. and at least let them deny it to me. Thanks for your interest. Charlie

                      Re: broken heart

To all, It was a witness who left a note saying this is the car that hit mine, and then disappered. They failed to put a state but the police ran the no. through N.J. and N.Y. and came up with a Jersey no. Police did suggest I give the no. to my insurance co. and maybe they can come up with a case. I'll go that route for now. Main thing is we need ouy car fixed. It hurts to look at it. Charlie

So sorry to hear that. Even though you know it'll get fixed, sure doesn't help having to look at it while it's broke.

                          Re: broken heart

                          Hi

At least your car can be repaired! The new paint may be better than the factory paint!!

I had a similar incident to yours, and maybe this story can provide some help.

My wife and I were rear-ended on our way to a Vikings game a few years ago. We pulled onto the shoulder, but the guy took off unexpectantly. We had no chance to get his plate number.

                          I felt victimized.

So, when we got home, I took the car up to my garage and put spot lights on it. A '95 Aurora has a plastic bumper which flanges out at the top and bottom. With the spot lights, I was able to detect markings on the flanges. After a bit, I became aware that the markings were actually indentations from the top and bottom of the h&r guy's license plate. After a few hours of measuring and comparing, I had the plate number figured out. I was jubilant!

I filed the accident report with the state of MN as a hit and run, and provided the plate number in the report. Somehow, this made it through the system. Later on, an adjuster called me from the h&r guy's insurance company. I had just received settlement with my company, so I returned the check, and collected against his company.

                          The point is:

                          a crime took place,
there should be some shred of evidence of the criminal's vehicle on your car, and
                          you have the plate number.

I think that somewhere in the state system, these things get looked at. Also, your insurance company will be able to obtain information that the law enforcement will not give you.

                          There are better days ahead.

                          Good luck!!

Yeah, a lot of us have been in a similar situation, and know exactly how you feel. It hurts now, but when you get it repaired you'll feel much better. Did you have any little rock chips on the nose?? They'll be gone when you get your Baby back
