I have had a nuisance problem for about a year now. When the car is warmed up and I tried to accelerate,I would get a pinging, rattling sound coming from the engine. Lincoln Dealer thought it was pre-ignition,Ford Dealer also said it was pre-ignition,independent garage said it was coming from the butterflies in the secondary air intake, another independent garage said it was the catalytic converter.
Finally, the Service manager at the Ford Dealership worked on the car Friday,Sat,and part of Mon and found the problem. It was a small metal clip attached to the inner fender that holds some wiring It was loose and he placed some insulation behind it and put in a new screw and the problem was solved. I don't believe that there are too many Managrs like this guy.
It is a real pleasure now to drive my Bird ping and rattle free.
