  • Front License Plate Remedy

About 8 years too late for some of us, but finally some help for those who are faced with installing a front license plate and don't want to drill holes in the front of their car.

    http://www.swiftmotorsports.com/product_info.php?cPath=2049&products_id=3922&osCsi d=jlmbnd4k4cauuppg4cq1nuaru4

Includes Mounting hardware and a FULL 1 YEAR WARRANTY

    Will this fit my car?
This is a universal fit system, which means it fits most cars on the market. It's a quick check to be certain, just a few measurements are necessary. Measuring from the front edge of the bumper, you need a flat area 9" deep by 3"wide to mount the bracket. If you have this flat area, this will fit. The unit will add 1.25" to the bottom of the bumper, so if you're already low, dragging, or curb banging, this may not be the solution for you.

Now that is pretty cool - - - might install in the rear to avoid the cameras on the toll roads from reading my plate and charging my credit card.

That is kool! Not having a front plate has only cost me $79 so far, one ticket in VA, so I'm still ahead of the game. Spence, they don't require a front plate in FL, right? Lemme know.

            Phil PK -
C'mon down soon, where you will be legal. Front plates are optional (for vanity plates). Otherwise no one will bother you.

Another reason to reside in Florida. T Birds prefer the Florida weather to those States up yonder. (also, no State income tax).

NO FRONT PLATE AND NO STATE INCOME TAX, SOUNDS LIKE TENNESSEE. BUT WE DON'T HAVE HURRICANES.

Yea, but we don't want to even get into the expance of home owners insurance here in FLA. Just about everything is the same as it was in PA. for us except this and car insurance. Phil, no state inspections either for your cars.

                        Re: Front License Plate Remedy

Borlababe, I took a look and there is plenty of flat space under the bird in the front (probably 30" X 30") but it's a big plastic pan. Would probably need to offset it because of the point in the Tbird nose. Not sure how heavy that device is, but I think I'm going to explore it further. The radiator starts at about 6" in so would need to be careful to avoid that.

I think I would like to devise a circuit that would make the plate come out when I turn the car off. My biggest problem here is that if you park on a street downtown Chicago within minutes even if you have paid for parking one of the camera trucks will write you a ticket for no front plate. When I remember now and I park I hook a plate onto the grill, however I'm always afraid I will either forget or someone will take it.

One concern I have is that if I get pulled over and the cop noticed I didn't have it while driving but then when I pull over and shut the car off it deploys and he then see's it and finds the device it may be a MUCH more expensive ticket.

They also have one for $60 that you manually deploy from outside.

                          Re: Front License Plate Remedy

Ok I had to get this when I saw this.

But, I'm not really a car tinkerer, especially with electronics.

I'd love to get it to automatically pop out when the car turns on and retract when it turns off, but the way it's set to be controlled with a remote, i wouldn't know how to do it or if it's even possible.

Also is there any 12 volt source in the engine compartment it would be safe to tap into? I wouldn't want to have to run wires all the way back to the battery.

I have the thing in hand, but I'm too hesitant to start splicing and drilling. All of my friends are more computer geeks than car geeks.

                              I talked to Dan at:
                              Swift Motorsports
                              251 West Thames Street
                              Norwich, CT 06360
                              Voice Contacts:
                              Phone: 860-823-1909

The weight of the entire unit is about 1 and a half lbs. For cars with the battery in the rear, he also has suggestions for a power source under the hood using the charging post (jump post with a good clean ground).
I'm lost when the talk starts about running wires to this or that, but Dan is most helpful, so pick up the phone and call him if you have any questions.
