  • Noise Problem at high speeds

Had my '04 Merlot for a few months and just noticed a problem that occurs at speeds greater than 65 MPH. I get a loud buzzing noise that starts and stops as I go faster.

I thought it came from the front speakers but when I turn off the radio it still happens.

I searched the forum but didn't get any hits.

Check for loose trim around the windshield. The black plastic at the cowl area where the windshield, hood, and fender meet can do this. The passenger side is most likely since that part might have been left loose after someone changed the cablin air filter. The soft top can do this also if it isn't securely latched on both sides.

Rich, It's about 99% sure that it's the trim at the base of your windshield as Kokomo suggests. You will need to uninstall the plastic cowl piece that the rubber trim is attached to and reinstall it. This time, make sure that all the clips underneath that trim are slid into their proper spots on the body. All it takes is one missed clip and you'll get that gap at the windshield.

If you had someone else do that removal to begin with, you could take it back to them for reinstallation. If you're going to do it yourself, the pushpins on top of the trim are removed first but be careful to remove them correctly as they can break.

Thanks for your replies Jimmy and Dot. Just had my cabin filter changed at the dealer recently. I'll take it back to them.
