Re: Lets get a better sound
Welcome to TBN Jim!
This is just my humble opinion.: I bought a Borla system and had it installed on my '05 for one week (only actually used it one day), wasn't impressed much by the sound, and it was a bit loud in the cabin. Outside it sounded a bit "tinny." The Ford mechanic must have thought I was crazy, when I asked to have the stock exhaust re-installed, but he asked: "What didn't you like about it? Was it tinny sounding"? I said "yes" and He replied: "that is because the cylcinders on a 3.9L V-8 are small." OK, I like the stock exhaust sound better, but that's my opinion. These little Jaguar engines aren't going to growl like the big mustang engines. In another vein: at a recent local car show that featured three red Ferrari's: the drivers got in them and took off after the feature. They also all sounded "tinny." Of course, they are all V-12's which would also have smaller cyclinders.
Well, I now own a spare, slightly used Borla System.

Lindy - did you know there is a 500 mile "breaking-in" period for Borlas? I does sound better after that.sigpic

Re: Lets get a better sound
There are a couple of ways to tackle this Jim and everyone advocates for the solution that they use. I did Borla's and think they are great. But I suspect other options may yield good results too. This is an attempt to avoid the heated exhaust system discussions that come up whenever the topic is mentioned.sigpic

Borla sux - let's get real about stock look. Stock look sux. If your're gonna go, go big and show some chutzpah. It's just a shame we're stuck with these dopey 8's when 4 bangers are so much cooler.
Need to get some spoiler action going, too!Attached Filessigpic

Re: Lets get a better sound
I installed the Borla system on my 05 myself. A very simple easy 1 hour job that requires no special tools, don't even need a lift. Just a pair of ramps to back up onto.
May not have even been an hour to do the whole thing. You must have had a tech who did not know even though the included instructions are very simple & easy to follow.
There is absolutely no reason to cut anything or alter anything on either the Borla System or the car. What "Y" pipe? There is not a pipe. There is a left side & a right side, both attach separately to the new muffler. The new muffler has 2 forward pipes that attach separately to the catalytic converter.
There is NOT a "Y" pipe.Mike

Re: Lets get a better sound
Mike is correct. I did mine myself too. You just unbolt old system and bolt the new one on. No need to cut anything. That is if you got the correct one, there is a difference between the 02 and 03 and above. They are Here. Scotty, beam me up!IT'S 5 O'CLOCK SOMEWHEREVisit the TBN Store

Re: Lets get a better sound
I have had a Borla systm for 7yrs. I love the sound. I don't want my bird to sound like something its not. My car is a cruiser not a Corvette or big block mustang etc. My wife and I love the sound and the sound level. Give the Borla system another chance or I'm sure someone out there will be very happy take them off your hands.

Re: Lets get a better sound
I don't have my PCR anymore, but I had the Borlas on it for the 3 years I owned it and I loved the sound. I respect other peoples opinions, but I don't know where there is a "tinny" sound with borlas. To me it sounded anything but "tinny". I thought it gave the car a kind "50's" car sound.

While, there are many, many satisfied customers of the Borla System, to be sure, there are a couple of other reasons for me not to don them as of yet. I do like the idea of a "sleeper" where the chrome tips are not as notice-able (i.e., the stock tips) and I am a stickler for stock. When my Borla's were temporarily installed, I did some oversight of the mechanic. He had to cut about 5/8 to 3/4 inch off of the passenger-side pipe, to keep the tail tips even. Next, he had to use a body spreader to spread and tweak the "Y" pipe, a couple of times, because the tail-tips were too close together. But when the job was finally done, they were perfectly aligned and looked dandy. Will admit though, I simply did not give them the chance. Who knows? maybe I'll put 'em back on one of these days. When or if I get bored of the stock system.
No "Y' pipe
You also need a K&N CAI to really make the pipes sing and as said before about 500 miles break in .
Here is a link to a video I made .
