  • Blue Book Value?

Are the blue book values pretty much right on or is there a higher value due to the uniqueness of the vehicle that the blue book does not take into consideration? Thinking about selling my 2004 silver has 95K miles on it but is in excellent condition. Don't quite know where to start with price.

MY ADVISE IS TO CHECK AUTO TRADER, SEE WHAT DEALERS ARE ASKING AND ADJUST DOWN JUST A BIT. HOWEVER, I AM NOT A SELLER, I AM A BUYER.

I say sell it for what you think it's worth.

Your market, Hawaii, should prove to be quite different from what we know on the mainland. More so on your island. You'd be the better judge.

              Re: Blue Book Value?

Dealers don't use Blue book as its basically wrong 90% of the time. If you look its geared for dealers to use in advertising. Retail Blue book prices are generally extremely high (there by making the dealers price look really good), and trade in values are generally low (making the dealers trade offer look good). There are many books that dealers use, our dealership uses NADA guides and compares it to MMR (Manheim Market Report, a program that gives auction sales information for the past 6-8 weeks.

Problem with Thunderbirds is due to their rarity, often MMR doesn't have lots of sales to base on. Your market is very likely very different than ours, so I hate to give you advice. I can tell you NADA pricing is online, and in our market, it used to be that Loan value was what the dealer would pay to buy a car, and Trade value was roughly what it was expected to sell for. Thats been out the window the last few years (pricing all over the place) and thats whats led to the use of the auction prices to determine wholesale values.

I can tell you that there hasn't been any 04's sold in the Hawaii market recently accordiong to MMR. There was a Silver one with 82,348 miles sold in Darlington for $12,900 and a Maroon one with 102,047 sold for $9600 (So Cal) (but was listed in below average condition.) This is what dealers paid for the cars, not what they sold them for, dealer markup will vary.

HI, I just bought an 02 Torch Red and Hard top for 11,000. It has some body work to do, but I am up to it. Door dings are usually easy to fix with Paintless Dent Repair techniques. That is a controversy all its own. Good luck, I love the T-Bird...it is the first Ford product in 35 years.

                Good luck,

                    Re: Blue Book Value?

It's going to be tough getting a good price in your location with that many miles and limited dealers to take it to for repairs. Your best bet might be to trade it in and let a dealer worry about it. I wouldn't have one of these cars with-out a warranty. Leroy

I think that he posted elsewhere that the car is in Ohio. Should be numerous dealers in that location.

Think, we are talking about two different cars in this thread.

96,200. Understand that the person was desperate and family. NADA was 12,000 average trade and 16,000 average retail for this bird for Kansas.

Location is a big factor and mileage even bigger T-Birds are plentifull here l and a very nice one with just a little over 100K is availbe locally for $12K. The true value is what you can get some one to pay. Dealers are poor examples on theese cars.

Earl, Looks like yours was driven but not too bad for an 02. My 02 has a little over 70,000 but I have had it from day one. As long as it was taken care of the miles don't mean that much unless your looking to make money on it in a few years. Good Luck.
