  • Ford Thunderbird Hard Top Protection Trim

Is anyone familiar with the Thunderbird Concepts protection trim to prevent the hard top from scratching the paint, as opposed to using the tape strips? I have a 2003, 007 bird. See the link below. http://www.thunderbirdconcepts.com/reardeck.htm Thanks much.

Don, there has been lots of discussion about this product. Do a search and you will find a whole bunch of comments. I converted to it after using the open cell foam for a year because I wanted something that looked better and that I didn't have to change each year. In another 6 weeks or so my hardtop will sit on it for the first time.

The proection trim worked beautifully for me. It protects and took away all of the noise related to the hard top rubbing on the car surface. I probably would have opted for the wider trim that is offered now. It wasn't available when I needed it. Good luck

MaxKemp here in Houston just took his off because the stainless was cutting up the rubber on the hardtop. I have an 02 and put chrome molding on. Lou Travelent who sells jackets and visors helped me put it on at Chattanoga Choo Choo. I got it at Terry's Auto is www.terrys.net. It brings up the Hollywood,FL store. That phone # is 954-922-3831. Some people have posted that they got molding at Ace Hardward. Looks great and can be removed anytime. Costs $20. =/-.

TBC has a new trim set that is wider and matches the door trim. Looks alot better than the old stuff. Leroy

I purchased the stainless steel trim from Thunderbird Concepts. Never mind it cutting the rubber the burr on mine would have sliced your finger
toot sweet. I was going to return it but I spent a few hours de-burring
via a chamfer and then buffed the pieces to a satin finish. I just wonder
how have been installed with that sharp edge.

Thanks Timothy, that is what I was hoping to hear, particularly the part about getting rid of the noise from the rubbing.

Re: Ford Thunderbird Hard Top Protection Trim

I took all of the original Ford weather stripping off my top and replaced it with a larger diameter solid stripping. The top fits on tight now and no more rattles going over rough pavement and RR track crossings. To protect the paint I use high quality masking tape. Problem solved. Leroy

As mentioned before IF you use the stainless steel be fure and dull the potentially sharp edges. Mine was installed when I bought the Cahsmere, and I really like the looks, seal etc, BUT the outer edge is quite sharp and have to be careful in wiping down after wash or detail.
