  • Value?

I am lookling for a 2002- 05 Thunderbird. I found one 140 miles away, and looked at it today, at a dealer (foreign car dealer). The car is an 04 Pacific Coast Model, light tundra w/ gray interior, a Premium model I think, w/ Hardtop. 70K miles. Condition is very good to excellent- has a few slight clear coat scratches on the bumper, some marks that will rub out around the wheelwells. The soft top has some stains where someone put it away wet. Virtually new Michelin Pilots. The brakes may need to be done. But NO warranty.

Driving the car, it has a miss when accelerating, and the check engine light is on. (the light was NOT on when we first started the car. Could be COP problem, or something else.

They have it marked at $ 16,900, and want to deal. After all, they have a 6-year old convertible on the lot, in fall, and this is Ohio.

They are supposed to check out the engine issue on Monday, and get back to me. My thinking is to act not all that interested, then wait while we approach the end of the month, then pay to have the car evaluated by a local Lincoln Mercury Dealer. I really don't think they will sell it, and I am willing to risk that.

Finally, to offer them what I would consider as a "steal".

What is a steal for this car? Assuming they don't fix the miss? Assuming they do? Anything else I should be concerned about?

Also- IF I buy this car, can I get/ should I get an extended warranty?

    Re: Value?

A PCR!!! Color is Montery Mist Green. Interior is Ash, with Suede seat inserts. (Best Interior Thunderbird ever did.) It does have the correct Hardtop right. It is Ash color Also. Make sure the stand and the Torx wrench to secure it with, come with it. What # is it. It is located on the inside of the Glove Box Lid. Definately have them Replace the COP which IS FOULING. Only the 03-05 are covered under warranty.

$16,900. RUNNING PROPERLY, is a good price. My dealer has one at $20,500. NEAR MINT ALSO, BUT 58,000 MILES.

IF it is eligible for the Extended Warranty.........GET IT.

Speaking of that ..................GET IT!! Miles of Smile's await you.

      Re: Value?

Mike, as an 04, the cops should be under the special c.o.p. warranty from Ford. See if you can find out if it's had any cop warranty done in the past and which c.o.ps have been replaced if any at all. If none have been replaced in the past, then you should be good from Ford to have any of the bad cops replaced up to 100,000 miles.
You may have run into a situation though if a particular cop has been replaced in the past under that warranty and it's gone bad again. If you're lucky & any previous bad cops were replaced while under extended warranty or the basic warranty, then the special 100K warranty would still be good on all of them.

I know I've said a mouth full, so digest one sentence at time!

        Re: Value?

If I made that deal, I'd insist that the dealer replace all COPS first and include an extended warranty. (That's if he's willing to deal)

          Re: Value?

Would be a nice TRY, George. But unfortunately FORD is standing a Hard Line, on only replacing Bad COP's now.

            Re: Value?

Yes Dave, but he would be buying it from a foreign car dealer, so why not ask? Most they can say is no, and if he buys, it's still under Ford warranty for COPS.

Worst case they say no and have them replace the bad COP---I'd still try for all 8.
