I am lookling for a 2002- 05 Thunderbird. I found one 140 miles away, and looked at it today, at a dealer (foreign car dealer). The car is an 04 Pacific Coast Model, light tundra w/ gray interior, a Premium model I think, w/ Hardtop. 70K miles. Condition is very good to excellent- has a few slight clear coat scratches on the bumper, some marks that will rub out around the wheelwells. The soft top has some stains where someone put it away wet. Virtually new Michelin Pilots. The brakes may need to be done. But NO warranty.
Driving the car, it has a miss when accelerating, and the check engine light is on. (the light was NOT on when we first started the car. Could be COP problem, or something else.
They have it marked at $ 16,900, and want to deal. After all, they have a 6-year old convertible on the lot, in fall, and this is Ohio.
They are supposed to check out the engine issue on Monday, and get back to me. My thinking is to act not all that interested, then wait while we approach the end of the month, then pay to have the car evaluated by a local Lincoln Mercury Dealer. I really don't think they will sell it, and I am willing to risk that.
Finally, to offer them what I would consider as a "steal".
What is a steal for this car? Assuming they don't fix the miss? Assuming they do? Anything else I should be concerned about?
Also- IF I buy this car, can I get/ should I get an extended warranty?
