    Re: Parts to have

Hopefully, in the future, those who thought to buy and keep a few spare parts for their T-Bird(s) will make it possible for the lucky others to buy sell and trade what will be much needed parts. That together with parts availabe from wrecks, before they meet their fate in the car shredder:

Bought a few small bags of each from Ford, cost me 198 'dolla !
Expensive, but sure is handy to have 'em on hand when you need 'em.
Also some of the rear quarter T-Bird scripts.

Thinking about getting a couple of hub caps for each of my birds.
Do you have a list of part numbers your used for the fastners you got? I broused thru my shop manual and found some that I then tried to find on the clips & fastners web site provided by Lonestar but only got hits on less than 10%. If you shop that web site, note that they typically do not use dash marks in their numbers so a Ford number would be found by using the entire number without the dash marks.

Paul, you might find a few of the fastener part numbers on the following thread:
        http://www.thunderbirdnest.com/forum...ight=fasteners

Though, please keep in mind that the fastener for the '02 and '05 fasteners are going to be different.

There was a 2004 TBird Theft Recovery for sale in the Indiana Auto-Trader about 4 months ago. It was missing both doors and the radio, they were asking $7,500.00 for it in a salvage yard ad. The Ins. Co. must have totaled it. Car thieves are ruthless. Leroy

Since the production of the Baby birds and the Retro's a about the same does any one have an idea of how many of the 55-57's are still around. I would guess more retro's will survive as they are better built. Rust was a major issue in the 50's

              Re: Parts to have

I should think head light and tail light assemblys and a grille might be a good investment.

I found it difficult to find steering knuckles and lower ball joint (comes as a single unit for each side) assembly in Canada for our 02 Lincoln LS V8 and after waiting since February for my mechanic to locate them through local parts suppliers he gave up. I finally tracked down the original supplier to Ford in Texas and bought them for half the $1200 price tag that the dealer said they would charge...........if they could source them. I found them on e-bay.

Of course our Birds have the same parts.........but $600 for the pair is a big investment right now when you don't have a problem on the Bird. So suspension parts could be an issue; at least up here.

Drive it like you stole it !!!

A lot of 55-57's around. You could probably build a new one today out of
                after market parts.
