    It's the idea of the "retro" concept that is "sacrosanct" and amusing to ponder. What works in one league also works in another. That was pretty much the intent of this thread. That and tasting fine proverbial wines.

          As far as the Benz 300SL if you could not afford to buy it new you can't afford to buy
          it used. This logic applies to all cars and many other things. Think about it.

            Beyond being a symbol the Gullwing then and now is over rated in certain aspects. I think the retro bird is better at what it is " supposed to be than the Benz is at what it is supposed to be. But it is still apple and oranges. A timex is a watch a rolex is jewelry, same here
