    Re: I'm getting concerned

Bushings repaired. Car rides nice and quiet.

Now the LS driver's dooor stopped responding to the remote lock/unlock and the keypad, but it appears to have corrected itself, for now.

All the other doors worked fine.

Filled up the gas tank. Hit the reset button on the dash computer. The faceplate/enter controls fell into the dash.

      Can't make this up.

        Sell it!

Life's too short to own and drive a car that's just falling apart , in front of you.

Today it's almost not even a choice. So much technology can quickly turn a car you like into a car you HATE as it BLEEDS you for your hard earned dollars.

If it were me I'd put it all back together, drive it to the nearest dealer that sells something I like and trade it in.

        RUN FOREST.........RUN!!!

          Please sell it.
It is very depressing to read your posts when everybody else's cars are doing at least as well as can be expected and most are doing excellent.
          Please sell it.

            Selling is not an option.

As I stated, even with all the problems, it is a fun car to drive, and my wife likes it.

              ............ you have my sympathy.........
I bet a lot of us have been there. I know I have.

Emotion over objective decision making happens sometimes over cars. The longer it goes on the more expensive it becomes and for me anyway.....the more foolish I feel when I finally wake up and "cut the cord".

I'm confused. Are we still talking about the LS, or back to the TBird?

                  Re: I'm getting concerned

It's my LS that's had the problems.

The TBird hasn't had these issues.

TBird's had a trans valve change and reflash, a parkiing boot boot replacement (it broke again), and a wheel replacement.

No COPS issues, mileage at 17+.

                      Re: I'm getting concerned

My service manager doesn't see a lot of Birds either, but he sees a lot of LS's.

I'd rather take my TBird to a Lincoln dealer than a Ford dealer. I do not trust our local Ford dealer, who also sells Lincolns now, but did not back in the LS days.

The Ford dealer that sold me the car is now closed.

I think my present Lincoln dealer will be closed also.

Wasn't there a post at one time describing how to remove the TBird (or LS) dash panels covering the radio, A/C, etc?

                        Re: I'm getting concerned

Our Lincoln dealer closed and was folded into the Ford dealer. I have used the Ford dealer exclusively since buying the 'Bird new in 03 with good results.

I think things like bushings, etc. which are rubber probably have problems that are more age related than mileage related.

Check engine light came on, and the car exhibits a miss every now and then.

Hope it's just a COP failure.

                          Heading to the dealer tomorrow.

                            Re: I'm getting concerned

Our 02 LS V8 has 87,000 miles on it and has had only two problems, one with heater/ac valve (hot on one side/cold on the other) and I just recently replaced the lower ball joints and steering knuckles.

The right side was producing a crunching noise when you turned the wheel and my mechanic suggested replacing the whole unit ball joint and steering knuckle on both sides rather than fix one one week and perhaps be back next week for the other side.

That being said, no other major problems. Great car to drive, quiet, responsive and looks great too! (Black always does when it's clean)

It's my wife's car and we look forward to having around for long time yet.

Jerry, I'm afraid that living in North Jersey is one of the biggest problems with front end damage and parts becoming loose, and rattles. Our roads are notorius for being in bad shape. We had two motor homes over the years and had parts dropping off in and out of them as soon as we hit New Jersey.

                                Can't argue that, Charles.

One day a few years ago, my wife came in the house and told me our 1989 TownCar wouldn't move out of the driveway.

I got in the car, and you could feel the car trying to go forward or backwards, but it wouldn't budge more than a few inches.

Got out, looked at the front wheels, and saw one wheel pointing straight and the other pointing left. Steering had fallen apart. Luckily, it was in the driveway.

Had a similar thing happen to me as a kid in 1961 with a 1957 Olds convert. Pulled out of a parking spot and couldn't steer the car.

Rod connecting left and right wheels had completely snapped.
