  • Looking for part

Just received this request for a part. Anyone out there that can locate one, just give me a hollar and I can put you in touch with the shop.

I am praying that you can help me. I am a repair shop in New York trying desprately to find a Rear Electric Module for a 2003 T Bird ... The part# is 3w6t13b524aa. This module is located under the rear cover behind the seats. This part is on an undetermined back order from Ford. Salvage yards can't even come up with a used part. This car has been in our shop since July 17, 2010. Any guidance you can give will be appreciated.

I don't think so. This is the computer that controls the soft top and hardtop electronics and lights and trunk release on the Thunderbird.

        Re: Looking for part

It is scary when the lack of part for a 2003 car has kept it out of service for 90 days. I thought the manufacturers were supposed to support discontinued models with parts for 10 years. Am I right or wrong?

          Re: Looking for part

I think their only obligation is for safety related parts on a working car and even that is iffy. hmm - lights not working? that would be safety related. Don't know anything about the circumstances on this car other than that email.

Ford probably needs a minimum number of requests before they'll have a part remade.

            Re: Looking for part

The early-on information about the current retroBirds was that they were to be mechanical twins of the LS.....I guess that doesn't apply to electronics.

Pretty sad that our autos can be sidelined by a lack of parts because insufficient spares have been created. I guess that's part of the price of owning a relatively limited production machine.

In the end that is part of the reasoning behind the eventual mega price appreciation of the car. People (soon) will start buying "parts cars". A few years ago, I was going to buy an Allante as a toy. But they were already in parts distress.......

A lot better car and even more exclusive, but doesn't have the Cachet the Thunderbird had. Adios, mi Amigo.

                Re: Looking for part

Wait until they see the price. I had mine replaced in the Spring of this year. The only symptom was that the passenger side power door lock didn't work. That module alone was $625 from Ford. I also needed a new lock actuator. Total was over $800 for a door lock! Since this has been my only problem, I can't complain too much.

I wonder if Ford supplies their own dealer service departments with parts first.

                    Re: Looking for part

It is intersting to note since I own both classic and retro birds that the classics have an abundants of parts available from numerous vendors and when comparing to the retro birds inexpensive parts at that. I can repair or replace 95% of the classic bird parts/systems; however, the retro it not so. IMHO it just a matter of time before some retro vendors start up a business to support our needs.

...No luck in Canada....to order through a dealer would be a vendor referral...which may take forever or at least until the vendor descides to manufacture a batch...if the vendor is still in business....Vendor parts supply has been in turmoil since the collapse of the auto industry....I was quoted $549.00 to $587.00 cdn. for this phantom part by the way....

Bill, I agree. As time goes by the aftermarket people will get into this as demand will be there. I'm not too worred about it right now.

I wonder if that part would be covered under a Premium Care Ford Warranty? Leroy
