      Re: COMMENT AT CAR SHOW

I been asked, "Who makes that Thunderbird?"

I have been told (When my car was new) "They don't make them like that anymore."

Hey Tom, don't forget about the excellent "Ford" script logo on the aluminum plates of the running-boards!

That, being said, it is ironic that Ford chose to downplay, their corporate logo on these halo-cars. But the choice was very true to the early-birds which were virtually touted a seperate brand, not unlike the Continental Mark II of that era, a product of Continental div. of the Ford Motor Co.

Many classic sayings above! Just goes to prove that there are those who should remain "quiet". There is nothing like opening the ole mouth and inserting whole foot!

              Re: COMMENT AT CAR SHOW

Lindy, I would suspect that at the time the decision was made not to include the logo on the outside of the car, the Firestone tire debacle had not started and Ford was at a high in popularity with their sales of all brands. At least they added it in a fashion on the 04s and 05s.

Claude is absolutely right. What hits me here is that Ford didn't adequately market the Thunderbird. Two things contributed to its eventual failure: greedy dealers and poor marketing, i.e. lack of advertising. Even though this is the information age, people still only know what they have been told. Ford never emphasized the fact that the Thunderbird had V-8 power. Instead, they opted to build an ad campaign around the idea of "relaxed sportiness" (remember the commercial with the Lotus and the pretty lady with the handkerchief). Compare the ads for the 2002-2005 Thunderbirds to the early bird ads on YouTube. Those ads highlight power and performance. Perhaps Ford did not want the Thunderbird compared to the Corvette, since it was never intended as a sports car.

Hey Dot, not sure what you were alluding to? A couple of us were talk'n about Ford's lack of tagging the 02-05 T-Birds with their "blue oval" (if you will), which is all, of course, germane to this thread. So there is another Ford logo that we should know about...No?

not the Ford oval (I realized that's what you were talking about so said "in a fashion") - but the word FORD on the hub caps of the 04s and 05s. (Vintage to the 56 and 57s)

That's ONE of the things I miss about my '02...the wheels (no "FORD" on them).

MotorTrend did a roadtest of a Hyundai Genesis 4 dr sedan, 3.8 V6.

                          0-60, 6 seconds flat

(The V8 does it in 5.3.)

I don't believe my 2003 TBird (or 2004 Lincoln LS) was ever rated 0-60, 6 flat. (mid 6's probably for the 2003's and newer?)

                          Today, these ain't your grandfather's V6's.

OK Dot...ach, yah, what a dummy I am...of course, the hub-caps on the later models were marked, in a bit of retro-genius. Don't know how I forgot that one...and I do still own a 2005! Thanks for that one!
