  • Gas Mileage

Just for fun - last wee we went from Indianapolis IN to SC (Columbia and to the coast - beautiful state), came back through Perry GA with an overnight stop in Chattanooga TN and back home. We drove 2018 miles in six days with 23.1 mpg for a low and 24.7 mpg for the high. It is an '03 with about 26K (and due for an oil change).

Very comfortable and fun to drive (of course). Saw two other retro-birds on the trip.

I hope that you meant to say "last week" and not "last wee". 2018 miles is a mighty long trip without a "wee".

        Re: Gas Mileage

I am usually able to get 20+ on local trips with a split between city and highway driving. Over the road, I am able to get 30 or better. Trip to Maggie Valley a few years ago, we got over 30 mpg in extreme heat, with a split between top down and top up with the air on.

I am always pleased with the car and love the looks I get. Put the hard to on today and she looked like a new car :-)

          30 MPG, that's outstanding! I get 25 on the road with a/c on. With 25/75 city/hwy I'm averaging 22.

Never saw 30. Mid/upper 20's has been the best.

Don't know the accuracy, but my LS got almost 29 as indicated by the car's trip computer, on a straight 5 mile interstate run at 65+.

                Re: Gas Mileage

I've been getting right at 15 mpg driving to work. The problem is that I live 3.5 miles from my job and I hit two stoplights (those things are never green) and no less than 9 stop signs, so I think it's doing pretty good. My previous daily driver was a 1.6 Miata and that only got 24 -25. For the power, style and comfort I'll keep the T Bird. That stinkin' little Miata will out handle anything on the planet, however.....

Yup, week. (note to self: read before you hit 'send' - duh).

BTW, I get about 18-19 puttering around town. My 2000 Saturn gets 35 on the highway, but the wife says it isn't near as much fun to drive (a sunroof does not compare to a ragtop).

                    Re: Gas Mileage

Sat/Sun run of 1015 miles, three tanks of gas, cruising at 70 when possible--23.8 mpg.

Miatas handle well because they don't go very fast. Got rid of mine because it was an invisible death trap on the freeway that couldn't get out of it's own way. Gives me the shudders just thinking about driving it in LA traffic. Cute in a girly boy sort of way though..

I got rid of mine to buy the T Bird. Mine was happiest running at about 85 and had absolutely no problem hitting triple digits. Your timing belt must have jumped. You are right though, it pretty much had a bullseye on it when it came to other drivers. I had numerous people who were looking right at me turn left in front of me. Not a car for those who are part of the obesity epidemic.
