Re: Just had the seat inserts dyed

Cost was $225 & well worth it. Check out the other mod I did last year, adds a little class to the interior also.

Beautiful. If someone here offered that, I would do it in a second. I love the two-toned interior look!

        It is beautiful.
Did you know that the medium steelblue for 2005 could be ordered with the seat inserts colored to match, very similar to ordering the sand color package.

I think it looks great. as I have the tu-tone blue already, I wonder if they could do the middle of the head- rests? and also, what kind of shop did this for you? Thanks, Chas.

It was a independent that works out of his truck doing vinyl & leather repairs for the local car dealers. He did it at my home.

Could he drive to Phoenix? (JK) Would love to 'change' my inserts from white to IG.

Re: Just had the seat inserts dyed

I have never dealt with leather dyed a different color like this. Do they bleach it first or apply the dye directly to the black seats? I am surprised they can dye the original black to a much lighter color. Is there any concern with fading or dye rubbing off onto clothing?

I was skeptical at first but after researching the dye process I found that all colored leather seats are dyed. There are very few Thunderbird Blue cows.

I wanted to add the proper colors to the Thunderbird embossed on the top of the seatbacks, but haven't been able to locate anyone in the area that can do it.

Re: Just had the seat inserts dyed

Your right, all colored leather is dyed. There are no red or blue cows! They did not bleach the seats, they applied the dye over the charcoal after treating the leather with some chemicals. It will wear as good as any factory dye job.

If your looking to have this done visit an auto wholesaler they usually have contacts for this type of work. I was looking at a Jag one time and told the dealer I didn't like the seats .He told me they were going to be dyed in a couple of days and to come back, they looked like new.Didn't buy the jag anyway
