  • Replacing quarter panel emblem

Recently I noticed a small portion of the 'T' on the Thunderbird emblem on my right rear quarter panel is missing. I'm ordering two new ones (one back-up) from my dealer to replace it. What is the easiest way to remove the old one and clean off the original adhesive? Thanks for any feedback!

I haven't had to replace those particular emblems, but as with other trim, I would think using a hair dryer to remove it would work satisfactorily, then clean the area with rubbing alcohol. The new emblems should adhere perfectly well then. I have also, just ordered a couple of spares for mine just in case! Good luck! Let us know how it turns out.

Hey Bruce, like Bill said, you'll need a hair dryer to loosen the adhesive. When I replaced mine, I also laid a strip of masking tape, to mark where to line up the bottom of the script. Then I cleaned the service with a mild solvent. Be careful laying the new script, because the adhesive is going to be very sticky on the warm surface. You'd might want to do a search for this topic in this forum.

Wouldn't Goo-gone work for taking off the adhesive?

Dental Floss is the easiest way. Then some lighter fluid to loosen the residue.

If I remember right there is a price difference between the left and the right side emblems. One of the girls that washes my car snaged a rag on one of mine and broke it. The owner of the car wash ordered the new one and put it on for me N/C. Some folks opt to take them both off? Leroy

For some strange reason Ford has two prices but both are the same. When I ordered mine one was in a plastic sleeve the other in a box.I guess that's the difference ,packing Didn't have to use a hair drier just floss and lighter fluid as said above. Good thinking with the tape for correct location

Take them both off and leave them off.

The car looks much cleaner without them.

I know that is heresy for folks like 'Bling Bird'. I think Mark has 532 Thunderbird emblems on his car at last count.

WHAT??!!! Can you even *fit* that many emblems on one cars?

I removed all the emblems off my Excursion...I loved the look.

Thanks for the quick respones. Lindy, the masking tape is a terrific idea! Once again, thank you all.

Great idea. The quarter panel looks better without them, and they are a pain snagging rags and breaking in the first place.

Thats why none of my cars go through car washes, only hand washed, owned or leased.

When in Michigan I still hand washed even in the winter or touchless only.

No wheel rash from wash racks, scratches, swirls or missing emblems.

Company Cars?- ran them through the wash.

1 company refused to pay so neither hand or car washed. 50 sales reps refused to wash their cars on principle and the policy changed back.
