  • Anyone Near Laurel Maryland??

I am selling my Desert Sky Blue Bird and would like to buy a Torch Red.

The below link is for a 2005 with low miles at a price that I am hoping will be negotiable.

Loving the red and loving the two-tone interior. Is there any TBNer who is not too far away that can check out the car for me and give me the lowdown?

I do not think CarMax negotiates. It's part of their advertising anyway.

Kathleen, theRED Bird at Carmax looks pretty good according to the pictures. It's true that they are a one price store and will not negotiate. They price their cars fairly in my opinion. My daughter purchased her '02 with 1200 miles at their store in Orlando and was pl;eased with the entire proccess. Hopefully, you can get a TBN Member in that area to take a look at it for you. Just like you did for "Handyman" and he purchased his Bird on your observations. We are here to help each other on this site,I'm sure someone will chime in.

I'm south of Laurel, but not sure I can get up there this weekend. If I make it, I'll report back. Does CarMax have a transfer/refusal policy?

Side note - and I'll deny ever saying this - I'd think long and hard about going from T-Bird Blue to Red.

            Sealy,
If I recall, you can ask 6 questions in writing pretaining to the condition of the vehicle you wish to purchase. They will have someone check out your concerns and reply. If they ship the car to the buyers CarMax location for pick-up and it is not as stated, you can refuse delivery and there is no charge for the transfer. Long story short, I had ordered a "04 Merlot and when it arrived in Orlando from N.Carolina it was not as advertised. I had no problem canceling the sale.

A short weekend drive from L.I. to look at the car. That's what I would do when and if you decide to buy it.I think they have a store to store shipping charge also if you didn't have the time. Looks Ok good luck

Actually, she has a Desert Sky Blue. That makes the swap even harder IMO.

                    Re: Anyone Near Laurel Maryland??

Sealy - if you do have time in the next week or two, I would be most grateful if you checked it out! I intended on gong down there this weekend -- but I wanted my husband to come with me and he has to work all weekend. Also, my father (who has been battling advanced stage lung cancer - aggressive chemo, lung removed this summer, radiation this fall) has broken his shoulder this week -- so I am just not able to go.

If the car is still there after the 12th, I will drive down there myself and take a look and drive back same day.

The buyer of my DSB has gone a little lukewarm on me. :( Hopefully he just was busy yesterday and I will call him today. Seems like a very nice man and I am hoping he will take good care of this bluebird.

As to the comment about giving up the blue for the red: had you asked me last year if I would consider it, I would have had a healthy debate to support never going with any other color (with the exception of the Vintage Mint Green)...however, ever since I drove out to the other side of the Island to check out Handyman's car, I have been IN LOVE with the red! If Dennis didn't buy it, I would have. I have always loved red cars and thought there were too many red birds on the road; however it doesn't matter how many there are - they turn my head every time I see them and the two options I am currently considering truly seem to be in great condition.

Hard decision as to which way to go. My budget/practical sense tells me to lean towards the 2002 that is being sold locally....but my heart and my sense of long term value tells me the car in Laurel is the one to buy. (I am leaning towards the Laurel car at the moment -- a very far lean!)

Thanks everyone for the comments and help. It is enormously appreciated.
                    -Kathleen

A lot better car and even more exclusive, but doesn't have the Cachet the Thunderbird had. Adios, mi Amigo.

Nope. Not sold. They took the link down and agreed to hold the car for us for 2 days while we try to figure out what we are doing.

                          Re: Anyone Near Laurel Maryland??

Well, I've been to Laurel and saw the vehicle in question. They have a Sold sign on it - did you make your decision already? I talked to Mark Bowser (301-604-8560) if you have any direct questions
Car looks very nice - pictures were pretty honest. No damage, just a couple of very minor nicks on the front bumper - what you would expect. Interior was very clean, no visible wear. It's only partial red, steering wheel, shifter, seat panels all OK. Everything I could check worked - could not get to the fabric top to check it. Started it up and didn't hear anything out of the ordinary. Engine bay, also, was very clean. Wheels and tires look OK. All in all a very good to excellent vehicle. Ask any particulars and I'll see if I remember.
Follow your heart and good luck.

                            Re: Anyone Near Laurel Maryland??

Sealy! THANK YOU SO MUCH for getting over there and reporting back. I certainly do know everyone's time is at a premium and I am very grateful for your kindness and generosity.

The car is officially 'not' sold but on a 48 hour old (I need to give them an answer tomorrow). I am waffling back and forth on the expense of this particular vehicle versus a 2002 that is local and under $20k (approx 30k miles on it).

My husband has been working all weekend but we planned a 'summit' this evening after we take our son and his buddies out for dinner (my son got his first college acceptance letter yesterday in the mail and it was attached to a decent scholarship so we are celebrating).

Again - thank you so very much for your time. It is very much appreciated!

Nothing like a good waffle. Price on this one does seem a tad high - but Carmax does offer some kind of inspection and a warranty, however limited.
Other things to think about is no warranty on the COPs from Ford for the 2002 an the bigger engine in the 2005 - yea, we've fought about the significance of that, but it is a factor.
