Check engine light

Today on my way into work the check engine light came on. The past few days it has shown hesitation and just not seeming to run right. I was thinking the cops problem. But today with the check engine light lit it is not acting up. Has anyone else run into this. I plan on going to the Ford dealer in the morning when I get off work. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Any Advance Auto or Autozone will check that check engine light code for free. Only takes a second.

Bringing my LS to the dealer today. Same issue.

They check it at no cost, and then repair is up to me as to where I take it.

Most times, I let L&M fix it.

Just keep in mind COPS are a Ford problem there is no charge to replace them. Forgot '02 are not in this .

the LS is under the same cop warranty as the Thunderbird so if it's a cop problem on yours, then they should be able to take care of it for you.

I know about the warranty. I only mentioned going somewhere else in the event the COPS was not the issue.

Bottom line, it was a COPS problem. 2nd one.

Got it repaired, drove the car home, light went back on, brought the car back.

3rd COPS went bad.

3 down, 5 to go.

and that's the way it goes for the other 5 until all are done. Wish they'd do them all at once and get it over with.

I am in for the same treat. It started during EuroThunder. Car runs ok most of the time, but misses quite often at 50mph now. Light came on a week ago, is off now. Took it for a 200 mile trip on Wednesday and all went well, so I am not too worried about it. Just see how it will run for a while and then if it gets worse get my hands dirty and change all cops at once. Mine is an '02, but would have had no warranty here anyway if it was any other year.

I brought her in to the Ford dealer this morning and Cylinder # 1 was bad. The service advisor knew all about the cops issue and the coverage. I just left the dealership and she runs like a champ. No charge.

Unfortunately, it's a 100,000 mile or 10 year extended warranty.

My 2003 Bird, at 17,000 miles, will never see 100,000 miles (with me as the owner), but I'm getting close to ten years.

Looks like I'll be replacing COPS on my dime down the road.

Downside of being a garage queen.

Just keep treating it good. And someday.......when my bird has 80 or 90,000 miles on it, I'll buy your garage queen.
