    Don, Go for it!
We got an '04 in January, just went on our first Thunderbird Event and it was well worth it. Guaranteed to take some years off your 71; I'm legally 72, but like to think I'm 16 - oh, did I mean 61? must be a typo.

If you can do it stop thinking about it.Life is to short to say I should have.I bought mine 2 or 3 yrs ago I don't remember anymore, had 10K now it has 33K and I also drive a Caddy it has 32K so I don't know which is my driver.I do like to drive the Bird and all the advise you receive is true besides you need a Bird to go on cruises that's enough to buy one.

          Re: Daily Driver?

Go for it. My Merlot was my daily driver for 4 years until I moved to the country and doubled my commute. I'd still be driving it every day, if it wasn't for those 38 traffic signals and 5 miles of some really stupid drivers.

I still drive the car one or two days a week. The car has 67K and the truck is now up to 73k. I've had the truck for three years now and the car car for seven. Wow, it's been seven years. It seems like just yesterday.

Go for it. You'll love the car and all the friends that come with it.

Don, mine has been my daily driver for the past 5 years and will be for many years more. Buy it and let your stories begin.

I'm 71 years young and retired. I drive about 8,000 miles per year (mostly local and 90% of the time I'm by myself). I'm a conservative driver and really "baby" my cars. In crappy weather I'd use my wife's Subaru so I'm not too concerned with snow, etc. Any comments on reliability or other problems would be appreciated.

              Easy decision!

If this is something you really want....... BUY IT!!

If you're at all worried about mechanical or electrical problems, this is a 7 year old car, the solution there is pretty simple too.

              Ford's Premium care warrany!

For a low mileage car like this I expect you can get the 4 year 48,000 mile plan for an affordable price that will probably surprise you.

Call ahead for a price then work it into what you'd be willing to pay for this car.

              It's a win/win.

If the car lives up to what you expect you get the first 4 years without much worry ........... if it doesn't (hard to imagine).......... it helps you unload the mistake.

                  Re: Daily Driver?

My StealthBird has been my daily commute, 15 miles each way, for the past 4 years or so, top down every day except for the very rare occasions it rains in Los Angeles. Ever since I bought it I no longer care what the traffic is like. I'm just happy sitting in the bird in the sunshine with good music; (that's not to say that I don't love putting my foot to the floor whenever I get the chance). I 'm kind of disappointed when I get where I'm going. Only problem apart from the rear-ender was two COPS going out at 40K. Never regretted buying it and now looking for one for my Lady.

Don, 15AGAIN is not a daily driver, but it has 112,000 miles on it and I have enjoyed ever one of them. I am 70, so do not worry about your age. But do make sure that you can get in and out of the car with out to much trouble.

Buy it, Drive it and enjoy life.

of course a Daily driver ... what else would you drive if you have a Tbird? Only decision is top up? or top down?

We "look" at ours daily; not a daily driver. Ours is out of warranty so we'll just have to buck up when/ if something goes wrong.

Hey it's a Ford what can go wrong?

I am a daily driver. My 03 has 49K so I do about 7K miles per year. We find the car comfortable so it goes a lot of places that we wouldn't have thought when I bought it. I agree with some of the others, go ahead an buy it, but get an extended warranty.

                            Re: Daily Driver?

Our's had 48,000 when we bought it in May. Was skeptical but liked dealer and got a heck of a deal. We bought extended waranty through credit union. We traded a 1988 Mercedes Benz SL garage queen for t bird not knowing how much bird would be driven. We have 4 vehicles and wife drives T'bird every day about 20 miles a day.
Bottom line is you can't go wrong on buying an '03 but GET A ESP. COPS and a/c units on theese will eat your lunch. I will likely buy another one soon. 2 impractical cars makes sense to me

Is COPS and issue on the 2005's too?
How about if it never sees rain?

                                Keith - -

My 03 is always garaged, and had never (well, hardly ever) seen any rain, and I have had TWO separate COPS isssues, a year apart.
FORD pays fully to have them replaced. It has NOTHING to do with an EXTENDED WARRANTY. (All except the 02s are covered by FORD.)

If you have an extended warranty, do NOT use it to repair COPS, or else you will have to pay the deductible.
