Re: We are a dying breed

From Peterfurlan: "I might be a little out of line here but you don't take a "Japanese" car to a Veteran's Day car show at a Chevy dealer."
Well let's see. The '56 T-bird has been in the shop for two months, the '56 Rocket 88 is apart under going the beginings of restoration, I didn't have time to detail the '75 T-bird before the show, and I must tell you I don't like seeing "new" cars at a car show. ("new" being ten years old or less) and that is the reason I did not drive the BondBird. Also I have participated in this show for six years as a way to give back to the Vets. All proceeds go to the Veteran's Hospital. And I don't go to shows for trophys. My cars are always marked 'Do Not Judge'.
As I look back on it, the Japanese car was not alone, it's other Axes buddies were there as well, from Germany and Italy too. Not to mention all the motorcycles from all over the globe. Funny, the thought of the MR-2 in the show being a slap in the face of the Veterans never crossed my mind.
So with that in mind, to any Veterans I may have insulted I am profoundly sorry. It was not my intention.

Antique Automobile Club of America celebrated it's 75th year this year as a national club. They do not discriminate where a car was made. Any car 25 years or older is eligible but they do require that it be as close to manufacturers' original as possible, no customs or hotrods.

It is the largest car club around and they've been having car shows since the 40s. If you ever get a chance to visit one or join, do so - it's an experience with a wide variety of cars. Just saw a 1904 Buick being driven this past Sunday with the owner and his 3 kids having a joyful ride to & from the meeting. That is one cute little car. Loved the woven basket seats on it.

When I was in high school, we cruised, but I think we were probably part of the last few years of cruising around here. Now they have passed laws against cruising (i.e., signs at red lights saying "If you pass this spot more than twice in an hour, you will get a ticket.") in all the places that we used to cruise, so I wouldn't be surprised if no one does it anymore.

That's sad. I wonder how it is now, where I cruised in the very early '60s, in Lawton OK and Leavenworth KS? I don't notice it here in Florida, but I never heard of those signs.

We had those same signs posted in Everett, WA in the late 70s and 80s. Cruising was popular on Colby up thru the late 70s when they cracked down on it. City rebuilt their streets, made it hard to navigate and generally did what they could to discourage cruising.

You had red lights growing up? We had a better system - - - everyone on the Police force had gone to school with my Dad or Mom. News generally made it home before I did.
