  • T-Bird Extras

Hey everyone, one week new Bird owner and anxious to get my new baby set up. Although my car came with a hard top, it is missing the HT stand, cover, and soft boot. I have found these and other items available at different merchants on line, but not sure if the quality will be as good as OEM. I have just ordered an "exact fit, high quality" car cover to replace my generic model I had in my garage, but I'm a little hesitant to order these other items without being able to look them over first. Any insight, or hands on knowledge would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks, Buddman

Finding OEM quality should not be a problem. Ford is not known for being especially extravagant on the extras. The only advantage of the OEM top caddy is that it folds and fits in the trunk - not a real consideration when you have the top sitting on it. Any of the after-market holders and covers should do you well. You can check Thunderbird Concepts for some of your needs. The soft boot is your big problem. They're scarce and expensive. Check e-bay; occasionally they show up. Also the for sale space here may have one. Good luck!

Hi, Bud. Ebay will probably be your best source for the items you described. Hardtop stands and boots often appear for sale. Since you can find OEM items, you won't have to worry about the quality. Good hunting and welcome to TBN!

It's not real hard to make your own stand and alot less money. I made one, but it doesn't fold up and fit in the trunk. Leroy

Don't go crazy finding an OEM cart as they're not that great. Aftermarket can't be much worse. You'd be hard pressed to find worse casters IMO.

The Soft Boot from Aaron at Thunderbird Concepts gets my seal of approval. Like most snap ons, it a PITA to get the snaps on the first time(They must be lubed ), but they get better.

A little soap on the snaps go's a long way, just be careful removing as snaps have been know to tear out.If your looking for original E-Bay on the boot cover but a black will be $250+-

You may be able to get the boot from Ford. I didn;t have mine and 2 locsl Ford dealers said they could get it. there was a huge price variance between the two but ny former owner found mine stll in wrapper. Even the cheaper of the 2 prices was well over $300.

Put soap on the snaps or use a crayon.

                        Probably lasts longer.

Stew, thanks for the reply. I thought about buying the hoist, but once I take the top off, I may never put it back on, and I was afraid the top would twist out of shape if left hanging for too long. How does your's work out.

Buddman - I have a hoist and it makes it easy to install, remove and store the top. Send me a message and let me know if you would like to see it.
