Sold one of my birds. My 2003 Premium black on black. It was an exceptionally nice car but when I got ready to show it, the car went crazy. My battery had gotten low, so I jumped it according to the manual. Then the car seemed posessed. The steering wheel went up and down, the radio did crazy things, it would not start, and the turn signals made the headlights flash.
I posted on this site under "Crazy Bird ... Help". Got some good suggestions but none of them helped really. I took it to North Central Ford in Richardson Texas and after two days they said it was part of the ignition system not recognizing the key. They replaced a unit in the key area and with a $100 charge (Easy Care Exteneded Warranty), I was on my way again.
I delivered the car to a very nice couple in Austin Texas (live in Dallas) and the next day they were having the same problems again. I did not process their checks and they took it to a local dealership that had it for 4 days. After a great deal of system checking, and with a great deal of help from Ford, they finally determined it was the instrument cluster. I got a that one shipped and replaced in about 24 hours and the folks in Austin again have the car.
I gave them the option not to buy it and offered to pick it up, but they said that it was the nicest car they had looked at and wanted to keep it. I truly believe they will not have any more problems with this beauty. I have invited them to join this site and become part of the community.
I still have my 2002, black with red/black interior. It has only 32,000 miles on it and I can guarantee you I am going to buy an extended warranty for this one as well.
