  • T-Birds and Snow??

Does anyone actually drive their beautiful bird in the snow? I, and most everyone else have traction control but I can't imagine heading out in the 10 inches of snow we have now. I'll bet it would drive no better than the old Mustang had, Which was the worst snow car ever..Thank goodness for old beat up Explorers!

the original owner of my 04....it was his daily driver for 4 winters and he says that he had no issues getting around in spokane wash....he was retired and of course did not have to go anywhere if it got real severe, since ive owned it going on the third winter iv driven it in some lighy to med snow....one thing of course in 10 inches of snow would be high centering it and getting stuck....i could go out and give it a try.since we got about 10 inches of snow last NIGHT......

The 02 is my daily driver but on snow days I drive my wife to work in the van, go to work myself, then pick her up at the end of the day...The TBird is not at snow bird, best to leave in in the garage.

No, I don't drive my Bird in the snow. I have a 4wd Expedition so what would be the point. The worst car for traction i ever had was a 1990 BMW 325i, even with traction control if it saw an ice cube it would start to slip.

Never had the Bird in snow, but my LS goes pretty good with 4 snows on.

But, snows or no snows, 10" of snow, I stay home until the plows do their work.

Fortunately, when I worked, every company I worked for released all employees, except for a handfull, when serious snowfall was forecast.

They'd also open up late in the morning if roads were really bad.

                  Re: T-Birds and Snow??

I do not drive my Thunderbird in the winter so I don't know what it could do in snow. I once had a v-6 Firebird that I drove all year. I only had to leave it in the parking lot at work 3 times over 12 years of driving it. The fun part was getting it back into the garage when it snowed. My driveway has a bit of an incline. I could gun that Firebird, let out the clutch and turn it around on a pivot, then let the momentum allow for backing into the garage. I got pretty good at it. As one might expect, rust is the reason I sold it after 12 years. It ran perfectly and had only 63,000 miles on it.
I also had a 1980 El Camino for 6 winters. It actually did quite well on slippery roads. That was with 2 80 pound sand tubes in the box.
Good Luck and a safe winter to all.
                  Now I drive a 1996 F150 4 WD for the winter.

Ron, if you haven't already entered this picture in the TOTM contest, you should. It is really an outstanding composition!

Was that snow from a couple of weeks ago? My daughter told me they already had some, she lives in Gray, TN.

I think the biggest concern is the damage from the salt and gravel they put on the roads in the Winter. My car has never seen snow or salt, it's in the garage and covered till the Spring rains have washed all the salt off the roads. Leroy
