Well, there was a time when I can remember all cars had only rear wheel drive. Uh, Oh, I guess I'm showing my age. Now that I recently moved back to Massachusetts from Florida, I wonder also how good the Bird is in the snow and if I have to get snow tires. Luckily though, I have a Jeep Commander 4X4 for those real snowy days.

I avoid the snow, when in Maine I had it out and caught an ice patch on a bend, and i was turned around 180 degrees before the traction control kicked in. (I was going around a corner from a dead stop, moved maybe 15-20 feet into the turn and round she went).

....well if it wasn't sitting in the corner of the garage, waiting for me to cough up $1500cdn. for the steering rack issue...It would be going into it's 9th winter season....never been a problem....well balanced....we have altitude here so the climate is very dry...so the snow is not heavy...the ground is dry underneath....just pulling out of a -36 degree C stretch though...so what am I driving but an old Mustang....lots of weight in the trunk...the positraction works....different driving technique....handled the bad weather really well!

My 2005 GTO has similar weight ratio at the T-Bird. As long as it has good snow tires front and rear, it does quite well. I will put the Bird away when it snows and turn to the GTO who has snow tires. I would think that the T-Bird would have a good experience with snow. I guess I will have to try it. More to come. It is Kansas, the weather changes every hour.

Thanks. I think the color of the car goes great with the snow.

Hey Ron, This is a beautiful snow picture - one of my favorites. My 2 birds (desert sky blue and 007 coral) do look so pretty on a wintry day. Could I get a copy of this one? Thanks

                      Re: T-Birds and Snow??

I live 60 miles south of Pittsburgh and drive my tbird year round. I put four show tires on it last year and it performs great in up to about 5-6 inches of snow. Any more and it starts to drag bottom.

Two in the back for starting and maintaining movement.

Two in the front for improved steering and overall balance.

Yea! and don't forget the 4 Mud Flaps, do you mount those babies on the stock aluminum or chrome wheels? Leroy

                              Re: T-Birds and Snow??

My four snows are on my LS using the stock LS wheels for the winter, and the chrome wheels off the retro for the summer (with Lincoln caps).

My retro doesn't see snow, at least not yet

But, the way my 94 TBird is starting to have serious issues (at 148,000 miles), that may change real soon.

Yup, the days of only using two are long gone. You'll be amazed at how well the four winter tires will perform as compared to all season tires. Taking them on and off gets tiresome real quick though. Can't speak for the bird's handling as it never goes out in snow or salty road conditions.
