Re: Da-Je Vu all over again

Ha Ha Yea I had bought my daughter an '86 back in '88, Loved the car but I literaly had to rool out of it. I had totaly forgotten about that. I like that style too and they really got their act together with that series Vette in terms of improvements. The 4 + 2 Transmisssion was a disaster tho, I think '88 was 5 or six speed Right?

Well back to values where we started. Four retro Birds on the auction block they
didn't merit any detailed description and just one photo. The auction was the Mecum
at Kansas City and these are the results.
      2002 $10,750 no sale
      2002 $11,000 no sale
      2002 $12,500 sold
      2005 $24,000 sold
As I said no details as far as mileage etc. Looks like the ones that sold for the least
      are worth the most.

I am aware that it is a little early in the game to speculate about future collectibility or future value, and as many of you know, depreciation can be a good measure of how desirable a car will be in the future. On that basis alone, I think there is ample reason to be optimistic about the future of the Retro-Bird. As an example, I looked at the depreciation on a 2005 model, since most research measures how well a car holds its value after five years (the average time it takes to pay for a car). Assuming an MSRP of $38,355, the first year's depreciation would be about $4,219.05. Over a five year period, total depreciation would be $16,937.34. That leaves a residual value of $21,417.66 or 56% of MSRP. There are many low mileage examples selling well north of that figure.

That compares favorably with a 2005 Lexus SC430, which had an MSRP of $63,576. Low mileage SC430's are selling on average for about $29,989.00. That's less than 50% of MSRP. The SC430 is a two-seat personal car that has been orphaned by its manufacturer, so it is good for comparison.

I'm proud and honored to be the owner of a Retro, and believe me, no other automobile could ever bring such pleasure.

Yea, but all the charts tables numberd and records can't measure the human psyche. So we won't know until after the fact. My point about 55-57.
