  • Cracked Thermostat Housing

I extended my original 4 year extended warranty for 3 more years (thanks to Lou) and one month later I get the sweet smell of anti-freeze coolant Friday night. Plus a little fog.

Saturday I put the coolant system under pressure and can’t get more than 12 PSI . I find I have about 4 hose clamps leaks from the cheap Ford clamps. I replace all the leaky ones plus as many hose clamps as I can reach with the worm screw type clamps. Then pressure the system again and get to 16psi only to find I have a crack in the thermostat housing.
I must leave Monday for a two week trip to California on business.

Time to call in my marker.
A call to my local dealer and he connects me to Ford Road Side assistant. I answer all their questions and the assistant tells me they are sending a wheel lift tow truck and I tell them NO!
Please send a flat bed tow truck. They OK the flat bed.

They pick the Tbird up one hour latter. Then the dealer calls me to tell me they have My Bird at the shop and will start on it Monday.
Monday the dealer calls to say the car needs a thermostat housing and they expect to have it Tuesday and have the care ready for pick up Tuesday afternoon and YES it is under Warranty.
Yes they will send a courtesy van to ride my wife to the dealer. We did not op for the free rental car this time.

Seven year old cars need extended warranty unless you want to be a wrench at any time.

    Happy Motoring

You stated that your hose clamps were leaking and you replaced them with aviation clamps. I have used them several times and have overtightend them and broke fittings. Most can be tightened with either a screw driver or a 1/4 " socket. It is very easy to overtighten with a socket. I don't care for the factory clamps either but my guess is they are designed to prevent overtighteneing

They, the hose clamps also were not the problem so I guess your remark about crappy Ford hose clamps doesn't really apply to your problem.

No. I had three or four HOSE clamps leaking. I could see the stain of Anti freeze from two of them.
The hose clamps that Ford and many other car companies use are for fast install at the factory. CHEAP.

They can not be tightened, just a steel spring.
