  • Shift from P to D sticks and clunks sometimes.

Sometimes after the car has been parked; when starting the car and going from Park to Drive the shifter seems to not want to move smoothly and clunks.

When put back into Park and then moved to Drive again all seems well.

    Any ideas why?

Could it be the car was on a slight incline/ decline when parked?

Could it be because the car has only 2,500 miles?

Kennith, Parked on an incline can cause this. I have had this happen a few times over the years.

If it feels like it's stuck in P try push the brake first. Helps for me.

Ideally, the brake should be kept applied when parking, before putting into park and setting the parking brake on an incline. If you do that, you will rarely if ever get that clunk when starting out again.

You should not be stopping on an incline without setting the parking brake first. Letting your transmission act as the brake when parked on an incline is the main cause of the clunk when trying to start out again. Do as Frits suggests, put your foot on the brake first before releasing from park and into drive.
