Sticker price .....was "FAIR VALUE" in '02.

Demand for the available supply, at the time, suggests you paid a very reasonable price.

For the person who paid $55,000......... in hind-sight he has to see how that was just STUPID and it should have been obvious. Still, it's tough to explain that to people caught up in their emotional response.

              Exactly, Mr. S...exactly.

And who am I to judge what someone spends their money on? Now *that* would be 'just stupid'.

It's not the amount as much as it is the foolishness of getting caught up in a mania.

                History is filled with examples.

Housing recently. Tech stocks 10 years ago.......and just sticking with automobiles there have been many examples recently.

Let's face it $55,000 isn't a King's ransom, I'll give you that, but it's hard to keep a positive attitude about anything you'd buy when it becomes plainly apparent that you GROSSLY over-paid.

That $55,000 T-Bird can quickly go from prized possession you just had to have........... then transition to constant reminder of a foolishly over priced mistake.

Chump Change? Maybe ....... but I'd argue that for most buyers it represented a large enough mistake that more than just a little "buyers remorse" must have set in as they watched the prices just plummet soon after.

2002 Thunderbirds were hardly the first example and I'm sure they won't be the last.

Yeah, Ok......I was gonna just ignore you but since you insist.

There are more than enough examples in this one thread that have clearly stated that with very little effort they were able to avoid being RIPPED OFF for an unreasonable markup in the first year's offering.

So yes.......that it absolutely qualifies as STUPID if someone paid up.

                    Don't like stupid?

                    OK......how about LAZY or IGNORANT?

A little shopping and discipline in that original CRUSH of buyers went a long way.

If you go back a read you'll find my post explaining that a drive between two towns a mere 10 miles apart would reveal two dealers. One charging a $12,000 mark up and another that sold less than his entire allotment in '02 at sticker.

Fun X3 claims to have paid sticker, So does GOBIRD........ but if you can find a way to describe overpaying by 25% or more of what they paid or the price I found by just casually asking back then......overpaying by $15,000........ as something OTHER than STUPID........

                    I'd love to hear it.

I don't care what my friends spend their money on. All I care about is if they're happy. Who am I to judge?

                            Since you are asking..
I payed 58k for my T-Bird back in May '05.
That is not in $ but in €.
Since conversion rate back then was about what it was now I payed an equal of $76K.
That is for a car that was already 3 years old, yet had no miles on the meter.

The high price I payed is caused by all the tax we have to deal with.
Like houses, food, insurance etc. cars are amongst the most expensive things in Holland. For the same money I could have bought a much better equiped and rated new BMW, Merc, Audi, whatever. Neither of those did appeal to me like the T-Bird did.

And if I had known back then what the true value of this car is I would have payed twice.. maybe three times the amount. No... I correct myself...this car is beyond value
                            Sometimes Birds travel far...
