      Thanks for the info Dave. Was this the original MX type tire, or a different one. Also, any idea of what caused this? I do a fair amount of hwy travel, so this is definitely of concern to me. To be honest though, I've never seen blowouts like the ones you and Roy experienced; they are what I would term catastrophic. It's amazing that neither of you were injured or swung into the path of another vehicle.

        The tires may have been installed 3.5 years ago but the "age" of the tire may be much different. Need to look and the week/year DOT code on the sidewall to see when the tire was manufactured. There will be a four digit code with the week (01-52) followed by the last two digits of the year. For example: a tire manufactured between 22-26 March 2007 would be coded (1307).

          Do not get a false sense of security solely based on the age of your tires, I just recently replaced a set of tires that was under two years old that were all badly dry rotted!
