  • I missed it today

I have always been one to be able to, at least to some extent, focus on something else when encountering ugliness, disappointment, death, etc.. At some point after the fact it usually hits me like a ton of bricks but not initially.

When I sold my Thunderbird I was comfortable because a great person bought it and the car was going to a good home. I blocked out emotion but a few days later it was a little hard when I assisted the transport driver get the car loaded. I simply approached the activity almost like I was just driving someone else’s car (I guess in reality I was) and I was fine.

So, where am I going with this? Well, in the D/FW area today, Dec. 21, it was in the high 70s and beautiful. On the way to work this AM I thought what a day for some top down driving and then I saw a TR and EB with their tops down. On my way home I had a couple of errands and came across a PCR, a IY, and a WW. Except for the WW all the cars were topless.

Well like I said, at some point after situations it hits me and today was the day that it hit me that I no longer had a Thunderbird. I hope many of the TBN’ers the D/FW area got to enjoy a beautiful very late Indian summer day with a little top down drive.

At least you had the opportunity to know the TBird thrill. Think how many folks don't know that joy. And, perhaps there's a TBird in your future.

Yeah, I had the top up when I went to lunch and then got a haircut...but when I came out after all that...the temp had moved up a couple more degrees, so at the first red light, I entertained some folks by dropping the top and roaring away with the wind in my hair.

        God I love this car.

She was a good one. Sold 12/30/2014.
Replaced with 2013 Infiniti G37 Coupe.
A lot better car and even more exclusive, but doesn't have the Cachet the Thunderbird had. Adios, mi Amigo.

I got out yesterday with the 02 but didn't put the top down. thought about it but had errands to complete. 84 yesterday and 80 today. Felt good and didn't even feel that warm so guess I'm still acclimated to the high summer temps. wind from the north so suppose it will be even cooler tomorrow.

Good thing you didn't spot a Merlot or you'd really be feeling it. Sunday was a topless day in DC - 40 degrees and sunny (that's my minimum requirement for pushing the down button). As to regrets - I was looking for an address on Google maps yesterday and decided to look to see if my neighborhood had been updated. They still have my Rambler ('64 American, rampart red, convertible) parked out front. Seeing it brought back the old AMC yen. Thunderbird is a great car, but it ain't no Rambler.

The wind chill was 24* so no tops down here. It's fur coat weather.

                    Bill

Know what you mean - Susan keeps bugging me to put the hardtop on but with days like we have had lately just not ready. I don't think I saw a convertible with the top UP yesterday. We set a record here in Dallas yesterday 85 degrees.

Even Sunday we had the top down. Went to TSO (Trans Siberian Orchestra) then drove through Deerfield - an area close to Bill and I that really go all out for Christmas decorations. Top Down, Seat Warmers on and enjoyed the crowd and the lights - really stop and go driving but made the tour enjoyable.

                    Merry Christmas everyone!
