  • Billet Grill Installations

I am thinking of a Billet Grill for my Sumerbird.
Thought I would ask for any thoughts on Billet grills on the TBird ? Photo of your car or names of any suppliers of Grills you have had a good experience with & how difficult was the task of installing the Grill.

    Thanks

Go to the search function on this site and enter "billet Grille" and you will find several threads. Here is a link to a billet grille vendor http://www.powersportcars.com/access...PARTMENT_ID=46

rots of ruck!! I just did ours. Finished product looks awesome..... BUT.... be prepared, be very prepared to TAKE YOUR TIME with it. Once you take out the OEM Grille...the fascia turns to butter.!!!! Very difficult to work with as you have to test fit the Grille and mark and clip the inside lips, in order to rivit the brackets that will eventually mount the new Grille on. I would recomend doing it yourself WITH help. I personally would NOT trust a body shop with it, UNLESS they specialized in CUSTOM work. Because it is a LABOR of love to do the instal CORRECTLY. While the finished product is really neat looking, I put a thin chrome strip around mine, not only to give it a finished look, but mainly to COVER A MULTIPLE OF SINS!!

          Re: Billet Grill Installations

If you have a cracked grill it sure is much, much cheaper to put in a "custom billet' grill. Personally, and I have a cracked grill, think the egg crate is the "makes it a Thunderbird" part along with the hood scoop and turquise / chrome emblems. Remove that stuff and you've got the Batmobile, well if it's black.

Johnny Gumballs had his put on by a body shop and ended up taking it off and sending it back. Never did fit right. His thread is here somewhere, if you want to find his source.

                Dave,

Beautiful! You certainly were able to cover your "multiple sins" as I can't see a one of them.

                  Re: Billet Grill Installations

The price on-line from Team Ford for a new grill is $206.67. I don't think you'll find a billet grill for that price. I think if I ever had any damage to my grill from an accident and my insurance or someone elses insurance were paying the bill, I would pay the difference and have a billet grill put in. I think they really look nice. I don't think I would want to try and do it myself though. Leroy

                          Re: Billet Grill Installations

I have no experience with the Billet grill, but I can tell you that the stock bumper literally comes off in minutes and removing the stock grill from the bumper only takes a little longer.

I've seen a local supplier that offers un-painted T-bird bumpers for about $300. What if you buy another bumper and have it painted and put the billet grill in that? That way you can go back to original with no risk (aside from financial) in case you don't like it. You could also probably find someone on here to buy a bumper with a grill already installed if you don't care for it.

                            WOW!!!

Total change of attitude in that look!

Between so much BLACK, billet grille and painted 5 spokes...... much more aggressive looking car.

You may have created the look this car would have had if only Ford had seen fit to offer a performance version with an extra 100HP.

                            Very well done.
