    Re: Brake Caliper Covers

DavidA, You are absolutely right, I think they're just a gimic that serves no real purpose. And when you have to start adding spacers behind you wheels and worry that your lug nuts are torqued properly and will still hold the wheel on safely, that was it. I think if you want some color, painting is the best way to go. My calipers are Red, but I didn't do it, it's hard to see them with 16 spoke wheels unless you really look and Tbird logo would be very hard to see. They've been painted for the last 4 years or more and still look as Red as ever with no signs of discoloring from heat or anything and no peeling. I would've never done it but since it's allready been done I'm going to see if I can put a fresh coat of Red on them when I get new tires this Spring. I'm shopping for Red Lines. Leroy

      Re: Brake Caliper Covers

Great Leroy. Why not start your own thread about painted calipers and stay away from this one. This is about the covers, which, by the way, are powder coated and should need no maintenance at all other than cleaning when you lean the wheels.

Did you ever give thought the fact that you can see them much more clearly when the wheel is turning? They should be totally visible ... 16 spoke or 7, it shouldn't matter. anyway. I'll see you on the painted caliper thread, not this one, I trust.

Incidentally, I mentioned to you once before about your negative comments on everyone's discussions, this is just another example of it. You always seem to have something to say about everything. I only hope I can know as much as you when I grow up. Apparently your mommy never taught you about positive, rather than negative reinforcement? Try supporting rather than putting down, it's much more satisfying and a whole lot more appreciated.

Thank you Spence. I've been holding this in for too long and finally had to let it out.

Hey! This is a Forum, I did not change the forum subject, I merly commented on a post about painting the calipers vs covering them, and the idea and safety of adding spacers. I have just as much right to my opinion as you or anyone else has if you or anyone else likes it or not.

It is a forum, but constant negativity is not called for. I'm not going to get into a p$%^ing contest with you. I stated my feelings and several others seem to agree with me. Try listening to us and mellow out your posts.

After a lot of phone calls to the supplier and advice from my mechanic I just went with painting the calipers.

Joe, the calipers look great. How long did it take you to do the job?

Joe I like the paint job, it looks good. what advice did the mechanic give you about the spacers? I got set of them but have not had the time to install them. I have a three day weekend this week so hoping to do it then.

My Raven, Your car looks almost exactly as mine, except for the wheels. I think the painted calipers look just as good or better than the covers, who's going to see the TBird logo anyway. Did you bother using a high temp. paint? I'm sure your mechanic didn't like the idea of the spacers, I know I didn't. Leroy

                                Re: Brake Caliper Covers

I bought David the Caliper Covers as a Christmas gift and we both love the Thunderbird Name and Wings on them. It is so hard to buy for him that when he said he liked those, I jumped on buying them.

Joe, yours look great also. One thing about our TBirds, everyone has different tastes when it comes to mods which is what makes us such a great bunch.

                                Value the difference...........
