This is the yellow Ford should have used on the Retro Bird, just my opinion. I would have purchased one instead of the red.

Re: THE RIGHT COLOR
Back in 199...something Car and Driver magazine did an article on "What the Color of Your Car Says About You". I remember the comments about Yellow cars was not too flattering...so I did not go for the IY, although I like the color.T-Bird Obsessive Compulsive (TOC)2002 Blue/Full Accent Blue/Blue/White

Re: THE RIGHT COLOR
Originally ordered an IY '02 Bird in later summer of '01. Dealer called when a blue came in and the rest was history. Traded in the '02 blue in June '05 when my IG came in. Miss the better leather interior of the 02, however.

Re: THE RIGHT COLOR
Ron - - I would be afraid that the IY yellow accent interior would be too soft, too pastel, to compete with the intense YELLOW of the 57. IMHO.Tom

Re: THE RIGHT COLOR
Hi Ron
I would think that if you wanted to do a total repaint, you would want to start with a repairable. They have to tear the car apart anyway, and it would be considerably cheaper to buy.
I know what you mean about color. There are not a lot here (MN) to see, but of the number here, most are red or black. I ended up with a black one as a second choice. After we got one, then we saw some other colors, and in many ways, I think I might have chosen a different color if I could have been more patient. But, the market came down to where I could afford one, so black it was. It seems all colors have their virtues.
Good luck!

Also, does anyone have a ballpark figure of what a decent paint job would cost to have a IY re-painted to the Goldenrod color?
Low-cost spray painting from national chains costs $299 to $600.
Mid-quality auto paint jobs run $1,500 to $3500.
Premium work from custom body shops goes for up to $8,000.Last edited by JAB02LHS; Dec 29, 2010, 08:28 PM.sigpic

Re: THE RIGHT COLOR
A re-paint that is done right is both difficult and expensive. It is also nearly impossabile to hide all the previous color as it was applied before assembly in some areas. A close color would be better, but it is almost impossable to hide a re-paint and it does depreciate the car. It would be better to trade for a color you like.

Re: THE RIGHT COLOR
Ron,
Yes, that would be the simple way,but they do not make a Retro Bird in Goldenrod yellow. I think that as long as the original color was a yellow,it would work. Some of the areas that could not be painted would kind of blend in with the old. Not as if I was putting on yellow over black or red.sigpic

Re: THE RIGHT COLOR
I would be interested in a poll of the colors of the daily drivers. As much as I like the IY and blue birds, I can't imagine driving one everyday. The black is distinctive enough but not obnoxiously in your face. i drove a red Allante for a few years and that got old pretty fast as a daily driver.
