Who recently posted that they saw the FIRST car roll off the line in Wixom? I think that it is a Canadian member, but I am not sure. PLease come forward.

I can't remember the thread, so I cannot search for the post. But, I have a few questions, as part of my research for the BIG T Bird Tenth Birthday Party scheduled for November 19, 2011 in Orlando.

Did you see THE FIRST Bird off the line back in 2001? What was the exact date?
Or, did you see the FIRST Cashmere come off the line in 2005?

You wrote that it was bright under the fluorescent lights and looked like diamonds. But, when you looked closer, it looked like steel. You mean as in Medium Steel Blue?

Many of the early retro Birds were recalled in 2001 to Wixom for correction of defects, and were re-released to the FORD dealers at a later date that year. Imagine that hassle!

I am trying to compile a list of the 2002 colors in the order in which they were first built in the Summer and Fall of 2001. So far, it seems to be Evening Black first, followed by Neiman Marcus, then Whisper White, then Torch Red, then Inspiration Yellow, and finally, Thunderbird Blue. Six total.

6 colors were built for 2003 models, 7 colors for 2004, and 7 colors for 2005.

Does anyone have definite information about this? I don't mind being corrected.

Whatever the data reveals, the BIG PARTY will celebrate the birth of our BIRDS, TEN years ago. Everyone is invited. Details forthcoming.

Tom, the cars were not built in color order, except 100025-100226, which were the Neimans. 100001 was an Evening Black. But 100015 was a Whisper White, owned by a member here in NC.

My car was one of those recalled back to the factory. It was built is June, first delivered to the dealer in July, but never taken off the truck. It went back, and finally was delivered in October. Incidentally, all the recalled cars were fixed by Rouch, not Ford and done on a first in/last out basis.

And yes, it was a terrible time for those of us who waited 9 months after ordering to finally get the car.

The most I can say for sure on this subject is that the T-Bird Blue was the last color to go into production. At the time, on a different site, we had a member, Wixmpoo, that worked in the paint shop at the Ford Plant, that was very active on the site back then. She said at the time that Ford started another paint line to produce this color. Mine was moved up in my dealers allotment for 9th to 5th because of this change. It came in in the end of Jan. of 2002.

Dave - You misunderstood my post.
I realize that the cars were not built one color at a time.
I want to find out in what order the colors came. I know that black was FIRST off the line, and I am quite sure that white was second (right after NM). I want to verify in what order the red and yellow came. I know that blue was introduced last.

Thank you, John. That is the post that I was referring to. You have cleared up that for me. That was all in reference to the 2005 model.

I still want additonal information that anyone has about the first cars off the line back in 2001. They are the ones which will have their ten year birthdays FIRST. They are the OLDEST of the Retro Birds.

Have we ever determined who in TBN was the FIRST to take delivery of their Bird back in 2001? If so, what was the date?

When we toured Wixom there was a picture of all the workers standing around a Red T Bird and they all were holding up there index fingers and it said "First T Bird off Assembly Line". I asked about the picture since I read Bird # 001 was Black and given to the Henry Ford Museum. I was told that production was not done by serial #s and that the car in the picture was the first completed T Bird off the line. Wish I would have asked if he knew the serial # of the red Bird but I did not. Also while we were touring we saw the first three 007 T Birds on the assembly line. They were 02 cars being built for promotion of the movie. I did ask what # s they were but the workers did not know to look in the glove box for the #. I have pictures of them but that is all I can tell you. I hope this information is interesting to some. I wonder were that picture of the first T Bird went when Wixom closed?

Gary: Interesting that you mention three 007 2002 Birds on the assembly line as we are familiar with only two. Could you post the picture that you mentioned on the assembly line. Would like to get the VIN of that third car but that would be a long shot. Don't believe the 2002 Bond cars had a number in the glove box.

I was in Wixom to see the first 05 Cashmere come off the line in the fall of 2004 as I recall.....October or November.

It was a special invite from Dearborn that brought me there. I can't remember the fellows name but I had corresponded with him and attended the 50th Anniversary celebrations in 2005 at Ford WHQ.

The MSB caught my attention and drew me away from the Cashmere.

Once outside in the cloudy bright day, the MSB looked fantastic, the Cashmere appeared to be a flat grey once out of florescent lighting.

Guess I am partial to Black & Blue for some reason.
