Yesterday while driving my '04, I noticed for the first time that the red alarm light in the center of my dash was blinking?! It would blink for a few seconds, stop blinking, then resume blinking for a few more seconds. All my doors were shut tightly ect,.....then after a few minutes the light stopped blinking for the rest of my drive home. I would think this red alarm light should not blink as your diriving the car. Has anyone else observed this? Is it normal ...like a self check thing??? In all other ways my alarm system seems to be working fine. Any info would be apprciated! Thanks!

Re: Red alarm light blinking while driving?
is it the same light that lets you know a door is ajar?
Same one illuminates if the trunk isn't latched........that's caught me a couple of times. If the car was still, no motion meant no light flicker....movement made it start to blink.Last edited by HeelBird; Jan 9, 2011, 06:59 PM.

Re: Red alarm light blinking while driving?
Check your manual--it will tell you what the alarm light is for. The door ajar light is not in the center, it is on the lower right side. Mine doesn't blink, just a steady light.Frank

Re: Red alarm light blinking while driving?
According to the 2005 shop manual for our retro Birds. The alarm signal light located up on top of the dash, right under the windshield Thunderbird logo should only be blinking as a warning signal that the Bird's alarm system has been armed.
Once the Bird is unlocked with either the fob or by use of the key in the driver's door this signal light goes off not to blink again until the alarm is once again armed. If it on while driving there is something electrically wrong.
Arming the alarm only occurs when all is closed & locked (all being the hood, trunk lid & both doors). Locking & arming the alarm can be done in one of 3 ways; the fob, the key in the driver's door lock and by pushing down the door lock button on either door armrest.
The alarm can not be armed when the key is in the ignition and is in the run position. If it on, blinking or steady red there is a electrical problem, either the front or rear module.Mike

Re: Red alarm light blinking while driving?
I had this happen a while ago. It appeared to be a problem with using my secondary set of keys and the car not recognizing it immediately. Further details at http://www.thunderbirdnest.com/forum...690#post354690
It resolved itself in my case. Hopefully it will for you too!

Re: Red alarm light blinking while driving?
I am not believing that my car "forgets" its other set of keys. Does this auto alzhiemers get worse with age or mileage? What if it starts forgetting to stop when I apply the brakes ... hmmmm more things to worry about.

Re: Red alarm light blinking while driving?
Check the remote battery. They are all at least 5 years old and in may cases closer to 10 years old. The batteries should be changed every 3-4 years.Unbelivable TBN trips including ALL of the lower 48 States plus 9 Canadian Provinces, 8 European Countries, 3 Caribbean Countries, Countless National Parks and have attended well over 100 TBN Events since 2001 and counting.
