      Re: New exhaust tips

Thanks. Also visible are the new tires...and lots of snow, ice and salt. Not a good day to get it out, but all the stuff was in, and I had the day off.

        Re: New exhaust tips

I found it very difficult to decide how far out to run the tips. The rounded read end of the car adds an element I wasn't use to.
        Yours look good.

            Re: New exhaust tips

Santa delivered the replacement Borla tips for Moondoggie, but neither Bird has been driven since way before Christmas, so installation will have to wait (yes, they've been started, but I haven't been able to drive for 3 weeks...ruptured disc again). When weather gets better, I'll 'git-er-done', and post pics.

Bruce, the tips look great. Did you get a chance to see if the exhaust smell inside the car has been eliminated?

                Re: New exhaust tips

                Hi

What Southern (sorry--don't know his real name) had to say was exactly how I felt, but was somewhat limited since they already cut off the smaller diameter end, or they would have stuck way out. At first, they seemed a bit long, but not now. In my case, they don't end at the rounded bottom, but rather the end of the bumper...if that makes sense. I think their judgment was perfect.

Ron, I only drove it home very slowly, so no real way to tell about the smell. I do believe it is fixed however--only because I think I have exhausted all the possibilities.

I wish I had done this sooner. It looks so nice and not expensive either. He worked a long time to get the old extension off--said Ford did a good job installing that!

One thing I may avoid is the exhaust pipe ends so far from the back of the car that the exhaust is likely interacting with the painted bumper, possibly causing damage. That never occurred to me before.

Another benefit I did anticipate was a bit more bling for my black car. And, it did not disappoint.

I took the car to the carwash and cleaned it, but of course, had to drive it home. It would have been a lot better if it was 20 degrees cooler.

Maybe my imagination, but it seemed to add a "bit" more sound, which this car needs.

The tires have a more aggressive tread than the originals.

                  Re: New exhaust tips

Ours has 50K miles and no sign of bumper damage from exhaust but it sure looks like there should be as far back as the Factory tips are. New tips is next on my list about 2 " longer. Only thing I can figure is theairflow over rear deck and bumper must caues a downdraft for exhaust, Or maybe wife drives so fast she out runs it.

                    Re: New exhaust tips

Bruce, I don't understand why your installer had such a problem getting the old tips off. When I had mine done,he cut the pipe close to the muffler/resonator and simply welded the new tip on. Took a few minutes for the complete job.

                      Re: New exhaust tips

There is a hanger that has to be cut between the rear of the resonator/muffler and the original tip if your new tips are welded onto the rear of the resonator/muffler, then the hanger has to be reinstalled. If you go that route. My extentions just slide over the the originals, no cutting or welding. I think Bruce's tips stick out pass the bumper a little farther than mine but I like the rolled ends, they look good. Leroy

                        Re: New exhaust tips

I just received the same tips as you put on yours, Leroy. I wanted something easy to install, extended a little beyond the rear bumper, and did not result in destroying the originality of the bird. The are functional, look good, are easy to install, and easy to return back to original.

Bruce, the tips look great. I don't like how far back the originals sit and will probably make this my next modification. Love the shine on your Bird.

Thanks billm, I think it's the easiest way to go and the least expensive plus you're not ruining the original tips. Some just love to spend money to be differant, I guess? Leroy
