    Re: New exhaust tips

    Leroy

I still have your original post about this and just haven't gotten around to doing it yet. I think it is a great idea.
    thanks

If you go that route. My extentions just slide over the the originals, no cutting or welding. I think Bruce's tips stick out pass the bumper a little farther than mine but I like the rolled ends, they look good. Leroy

        Re: New exhaust tips

My tips are from JEGS ( jegs.com ) if anyone else is interested. They're Stainless Steel, Slip-fit/Slash-cut, 3" slip-fit fits over the original tips. Sold in pairs, made by PYPES, Part Number 958-EVT50. $37.99 a pair plus $9.99 shipping and handling, total $47.98. Easy to install, slid each one on over the Ford tips as far as they'll go. Make sure they're on straight and even, then drill a small hole through the new tip on the bottom or side where it slides over the Ford tip and into the Ford tip. Then screw in a Stainless Steel sheet metal screw to hold them securly in place. Leroy

          Re: New exhaust tips

          Hello

Ron--The original tips are welded on, and then there is a hanger that is also welded to the extensions. I believe there was some trial and error here. I know when I brought it in, he thought it would be easy to get the old tips off, as I think he thought they were just tacked on. Not so apparently. Also, the new extensions had to be cut/ground down. It took awhile, but they did a perfect job.

The end of the new tips look just like the old tips--same size, etc. The new tips are also welded on.

Maybe I am imagining this, but in some ways, with the reverse wedge styling, the back of the T-Bird seems a bit abbreviated from the side (in my judgment). The pipes seem to remove a bit of that brevity or wedge slash and add a bit of depth. It will be easier to tell in the spring, as my perspective is not great in the garage.

Regarding the shine, thanks for the compliment. The sides and rear have been repainted, as there was some damage to the car, and the repair job had mismatched paint. The repainted areas received a superior clearcoat than what the body shop uses for insurance work. Also, there is less orange peel with the new paint. I tell people to go up to the car and look at the hood (original paint) and then look at the fender (new paint), and you can see the new paint is smoother. Usually, they do recognize the difference, if in good light.

Looking forward to enjoying my car, but it will be awhile.
