  • Do you use Chevron Techtron Conc. Plus?

I put a bottle in my car at 2,000 miles and now have 2,500 miles on it which was 12 months ago.
The bottle says every 3,000 miles.
Will it harm the engine etc. if used by time rather than mileage?

Re: Do you use Chevron Techtron Conc. Plus?

I have used Techtron for a lot of years. Putting in too much at one time has netted terrible results. I have not heard anything about too often. One farmer I knew felt that one bottle was doing so well, he added two more to the gas tank. With three in the gas tank, it literally dissolved his gaskets in the carb and manifold. I have never used Techtron more than 1-2 times per year...so I can not think that more often would gain you a lot but then again the concentration amount is the concern not frequency.
Good Luck. By the way, just tested Sea Foam in the gas tank with excellent results.
Only those who will risk going too far
Can possibly find out how far one can go.

With Sea Foam, what results have you noticed that you call "excellent"?

I have 48K on a my 05 Bird. I don't know if I get better or the same gas performance using Chevron Techtron.

Point is I use it, one bottle every 3K-3.5K miles.

'Knock on wood', no cops problems, no idle problems, no complaints.

Re: Do you use Chevron Techtron Conc. Plus?

I think the purpose of Techtron is to clean the carbon build up out of your engine. I doubt that is a problom for you w/such low mileage. As the other poster said, too much can do harm, so I would not be in a hurry to use more.

I put a can in my '05 last year. Following the instructions on the can, I added to less than a quarter tank of gas and then filled the tank w/premium. Car started fine and traveled about half a mile and then died. Lucky for me I was in front of L/M dealer that services my car, so I rolled into his lot w/a dead engine. Restart was rough and engine spuddered a few times before it idled normally. Dealer didn't know why engine died, but I have to relate the problem to the Techtron.

I have used Techtron in my Bird and other cars for several years and will continue to do so. It must be strong stuff and next time I'm going to add it to a full tank.

            Good luck,

            Cliff

Never tried this product but have used Sea Foam in other cars. Have never put an additive in the Bird.

I've never used the stuff, I would be concerned about how it might effect the fuel pumps and the fuel injection seals. Leroy

                  Hi -
When you buy gas at a Chevron Station it has Techron already added. If you notice their ad's and the material on the pumps it says "Supreme" with techron, etc for the other grades. I have used Chevron Gaso exclusively for over 50 years. Went to work for them in 1953 - retired in 1983. Was in both Wholesale & Retail marketing my entire career. I always told my buyers - "...if you use our products, you don't need to use any additives."

The internet is full of stories of people who have had the Injector Cleaning done by their dealer and the car has more pep and is getting good mileage once again.
The other way to do it is to use the proper gasoline with the proper amount of detergent additives.

Since I almost always drive premier automobiles, I have used nothing but Top Tier Gas for the last 5 or 6 years.

                    The story is at http://www.toptiergas.com/index.html

Bottom Line: I don't have to add Techron to my gas. I have never had a plugged injector, etc.

Southern, what's the date of this article? Any idea? Like you, I stay with Top Tier brands. Mostly Shell.

What ever happened to good old "MARVEL MYSTREY OIL"? It has been around since prehistoric dinosaur days, and is still going strong today. I've used it for over 50 years, and one of the best gas additives ever made. I use it in everything, my Harley, John Deer Tractor, Gravley Tractor, and all three of my Ford vehicles. It works great and does what it states on the bottle..............WALLY WORLD carries it in the gallon jugs.

The only additive I have ever used is stabil, and that's due to the damn ethanol. All my vehicles have high mileage and run like new. I agree with Southern. I think anything run thru a cumbustion chamber is going to leave a by-product.

...I'm pretty sure that Ford doesn't recommend any additives at all, and I think you will find that fact stated in the owner's manual....
