Re: Is Your Bird a Keeper for Life?

Like many previous posts, I think I will always own a Thunderbird. The people we have met in our travels have made the trips most enjoyable.
Our 65 convertible and the 2005 now have taken my wife and I to many places we probably would never have been to. After the problems with the 65 on a trip to California in 2002 my wife has been relunctant to travel in it. She absolutely loves the 2005. She has said many times, "We'll never sell this car...it can always be restored." So I guess it's here to stay. You know the saying..."Happy wife, Happy Life".

The way I heard it was "if Mama ain't happy, nobody's happy."
That's what I tell my wife.

Little Red is my third Thunderbird, bought new in 2002, and is a keeper. I keep telling Mike that I want to be buried in her :-)

I don't care what she is worth, what I care about is the great times and great people we have met as a result of this sweet ride.

Our PCR is a keeper that will go to our Daughter. She loves the car and has asked for it. We use the car for Thunderbird event's and have met friends from Ca. to Main. 39 Thousand miles of fun.

Re: Is Your Bird a Keeper for Life?

Mine has always been a keeper. Too many personal memories to part with it, sad and happy. It will go to my daughter who has been enamored with it since day one. Plus, it was the last special interest "project" car her Mom and I purchased together before her Mom passed on. Her Mom's Jeep is her every day driver now. She loves driving the TBird, which she is not close enough to do very often. Conversely, my son has never driven it in the 9 years, 4 months and 28 days I have owned it. However, his 2-1/2 year old daughter, always points it out in the garage and talks about Pop's "Thunnerbird". So it looks like there might be a further succession plan in the making.

As far as parts availability, I can only assume, hopefully, that some resourceful outfit will start remaking key parts much as they have for '55-'66 Birds. I think there is enough interest in the cars to keep them viable as special interest cars, maybe even as collectibles, as time progresses. The fact that TBN is so strong, and so many owners of other vintage TBirds have purchased, or are considering purchasing, a retro Bird should keep the interest strong for as long as the collectible car hobby is viable.

Re: Is Your Bird a Keeper for Life?

I bought the T-Bird because I like the design, always have. This Bird is always for sale when someone wants it more than me, I will sell, but those proceeds will go to buy another one with fewer miles and then we repeat the cycle. I will always have a T-Bird in my garage, it may not be the same one. When I die, my son has already got his dibs on the GTO, the T-Bird and the Saab. He wants them all. He will have to settle that with his two sisters. My oldest daughter wants the T-Bird. Son definitely wants the GTO. Youngest daughter doesn't really care at this point. It will be up to them. In the family. Definitely..for life.

I love my 02. It is black with black and red interior. In my opinion there is no better color combination. I also added wire wheels with spinners that are as close a match to the originals that I could find. Also it only has 32K miles on it at this time. I live just a couple of miles from Amos Minter's shop. He has a beautiful black 56 that is well priced and the only thing that I would consider selling mine to buy. Soooo dangerous for me to look over his web site and go by the shop.

Both of your Black Birds are beautiful Charles, but I'm with you, I like the Black and Red interior!

Did your friend ever decide to buy your '03?

If you asked me in early 2004 if I would like to race around the Bristol Motor Speedway ... I would have said "you are nuts" .... guess what .... This is a great little car and all of the folks I have met here are as well... It's just too good to give away... and I used to get new cars every 3 years... just extended the warranty for 3 more on the Bird...

Still enjoy mine but I don't drive it much. Bought it new and only have 24,000 on it now. Will probably hang on to it but would probably trade it for something that interested me. Not interested in outright selling it but as I said, I would probably trade it for something that caught my interest.

Jeepers! That is what I said when I bought my 64 Thunderbird in 1967. Still have it! I certainly don't anticipate that my 02 will be treated any differently.

Being buried in 2 cars will be difficult, hmmmmmmmm I guess they will have to cut me in half and have two plots big enough to handle them.

Drive it like you stole it !!!
