Re: Stabil or Seafoam for storing car for 4 months
Stabil is coming out with a new product that is especially for the new Ethanol blend gasolines and all of the problems they are causing. You might throw that in the mix if you can find it - according to their website it is supposed to be released in Jan 2011. I haven't seen it in the stores yet. It has a yellow background on the label instead of the red one. Also there is one called StarTron that was recommended to me by several mechanics.

V8 Cat, Good point. However, until its available you should use Stacon or StarTron with the old Stabil. Especially if it's late coming out or if you want to use up your old Stabil.
I am one of those member who brought these two products up (Stacon and StarTron) a few years ago when it cost me $$ to get my newly servbiced boat started. I then tipped off my John Deere dealer who had 50 customers with a starting problem and after he read the bottles, he's been using it ever since.

Gene:
The original Stabil is just a product to keep your fuel fresh. Basically for engines that are not run very much.
When the new Stabil comes out it will do the job of both Stabil and Stacon/StarTron.
Both those two products are enzyme treatments for fuel. Reading the label or the old threads on these products explain it a lot better.
Re: Stabil or Seafoam for storing car for 4 months
A mechanic highly recommended Seafoam to me recently. I added it to a fresh tank of gas in a Lincoln I haven't driven for over a year and a half to clean the injectors, pass a State inspection...etc. I'm pleased with the results, but did the Lincoln really need it? I don't know. I do know the mechanic thought it was good insurance, for a cleaner running vehicle.
I've used Stabil in the past in a pontoon bought motor, when I stored it. But, I was under the impression that Stabil was just that. A method to protect the gas for storage.
Is comparing Seafoam, to Stabil, similar to comparing apples to oranges?? Maybe even less so, because both of the latter are fruit
So, is Stabil used to prepare a vehicle for storage... and Seafoam for bringing one out of storage?
