Tail light Bezels

Put them on last year and as time goes by I am having second thoughts about that decision. They look okay but not that great!! I'm thinking of removing them once the winter is over. Would like to know if any members out there have removed the tail light bezels and any tips that would make the process go smoothly. I was thinking of heating them up with a hair dryer before I tried to remove them. Thanks guys.

ABSOLUTELY. Just heat and TAKE YOUR TIME. They do come off easily. BUT >> BUT >> BUT, the cross bar WILL CRACK if you don't go S L O W.

I had the same issues. Didn't think they looked quite right - the chrome, and especially the ridges. So I made them look like they belonged. Hard work to grind down the ridges and smooth the whole thing, but I'm thrilled with how they extend the line of the car now. And yes, they were buggers to get off. Managed it with copious amounts of goof off, but still cracked one on the side, where it narrows. I forgot where the tape was and so missed some of it with the fluid.

Marty, after you heat them try using dental floss under the covers to pry them loose,but ever so gingerly.

Alex, I would love to know the way that you used to grind down the edges of the bezels and finish them off for a good look? I assume you ground off some of the chrome on the edges. I have a set but have held off putting them on becouse I don't like the look of the edge rising above the end of the fender. Thanks,

I, too, removed them from Goldilocks after one year...hair dryer & dental floss method (no damage), then sold them to another TBN member. They looked much better on his silver Bird.

Every once in a while, I get the itch to remove them. Then I look at them on the car and decide to keep them.

Two of the members in our Retrobird club had their front and rear bezels painted. They look nice, but a bit too expensive for me. Here's one of the cars. The other one is a Merlot:

I'm not into mods but smoothed and painted looks pretty nice compared to the grooved chrome look.

Alex, I misunderstood you. I don't mind the chrome. I thought you were grinding down the raised part where it sticks up above the fender. that look is what I don't like. If anyone has a fix that works for them, I would appriciate a shout out. Thanks,

Well, that was a welcome side effect of grinding down the ridges. I did it in place with duct tape protecting the fender - the hard part was getting past the chrome, then it was easy to sand the plastic so they were flush with the fender. I can't imagine how you would make them flush without grinding off the chrome. They just don't fit that well. You could perhaps shave the inside at the top and the outside on the bottom to make them sit lower, if you have the patience.
